Public meeting about proposed floodplain code amendments and an overview of floodplain remapping process July 14

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County-area watershed coalitions and Boulder County staff will hold a question and answer session for coalition members and the public to explain recent proposed amendments to the floodplain regulations. In addition, information will be provided and questions will be answered about the state’s current effort to update floodplain maps within the county. Boulder County is supporting the state’s floodplain remapping work because accurate floodplain maps will help protect the public and property before the next flood event.

     What: Question & Answer Session
     When: Thursday, July 14, 6 - 8 p.m.
     Where: Boulder County Parks & Open Space, 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont

Updates to the Boulder County Flood Codes are currently being considered in order to:

  • Create a transparent public process for incorporation of best available data for regulator use;
  • Revise language regarding non-conforming structures and uses to be consistent with the rest of the code;
  • Revise language regarding appeals and variances to decisions made under the floodplain regulations to be consistent with the rest of the code; and,
  •  Update related provisions in the code in order to best protect the health, safety, and welfare of county residents in the event of future floods.

No changes to the floodplain maps are proposed at this time. More information, including a summary sheet, on the proposed code updates can be found on the Land Use Code updates webpage.
