Boulder County, Colo. -- Boulder County – The Boulder County Elections Division has finished tallying the
results for 36,566 ballots for the 2016 Primary Election and has posted
preliminary unofficial results on our website - www.BoulderCountyVotes.org.
As a normal part of the election process, these are the remaining categories of
ballots left to be counted:
There are 145 mail ballots that have
the potential to be
"cured" by voters. These are ballots where one or more of the
following verification steps were incomplete: the signature on the envelope did
not match, the signature on the envelope was forgotten, or an ID was required
and not provided. These voters will be mailed a letter no later than Thursday,
June 30 (and sent an email if an email is on their voter registration record)
informing them of the status of their ballot. By law, these voters have until Wednesday,
July 6 at 4:30 p.m. to address these items (8th day following the election).
Then, there are 575 UOCAVA military and
overseas voter mail ballots that have the potential to be returned and still count for this election. Most
military and overseas voters that intend to vote return their ballot by Election
Day, however, by law, UOCAVA mail ballots have until 8 days after the election
to be received. Historically, we have received less than 5% back from this category.
Additionally, to protect voter anonymity for the above two categories of
ballots, the Boulder County Elections office has reserved 1,382 ballots for counting at the end of this 8-day period
(typically 3 ballots per precinct per district style). Ballots from voters who
reside in precincts that have so few voters with the same ballot style are also
held to protect voter anonymity. This year, we received back 7 ballots from this category. We also
have 17 ballots from election night
awaiting duplication due to ballot damage (typically, ballots returned torn or
with stains).
Thus, at a minimum, 1,406 ballots will
be counted and added to the current preliminary results of 36,566. Then,
depending on voter response, ballots that have been cured and UOCAVA ballots
returned in the 8-day window will be added to the current preliminary results.
Additionally, 22 ballots were picked
up by Denver election officials at the Central USPS mail processing facility at
7 p.m. on election night, plus an unknown quantity of ballots that may have
been returned by the election deadline to another county clerk’s office and
will be transferred to our office within a few days. Assuming the signatures on
these mail ballots are verified, these ballots will be added to the preliminary
results as well. Based off of past
election years, we anticipate this count to be less than 30 ballots. Finally, Boulder County has no
provisional ballots for this election.
None of the remaining ballots to be counted will
be tabulated until Wednesday, July 6. The updated results will be posted late
that evening.
For the Democratic Primary Election for State House District 10, we have
provided some additional information for that district (these are all sub-sets
of the above figures):
-
175 reserve ballots that will be counted
-
189 UOCAVA mail ballots that have the
potential to be counted
-
35 ballots that the signature did not
match, the signature was forgotten, or an ID was required and not provided.
These ballots also have the potential to be counted, if cured.
-
5 ballots from the Central USPS pick-up
and an unknown, if any, quantity of ballots from other counties
If a voter would like to
check to confirm that we received and processed their mail ballot, they can
check online at www.BoulderCountyVotes.org. While checking on the status of their mail ballot, the
Elections Division encourages all voters to login and sign-up for Boulder
County Votes Ballot Track (available on the Elections website). We will be using
this system for the 2016 General Election and once signed-up, voters will receive
alerts on their 2016 November mail ballot.
