Background

These proposed changes are necessary to perform a general update to Land Use Code Article 13 and ensure compliance with the recent U.S Supreme Court ruling in Reed v. Town of Gilbert. The amendments would contain changes to the County’s method for noncommercial sign regulation while continuing to protect aesthetic qualities by preventing visual clutter, protecting scenic views, and preserving Boulder County’s rural character. Staff will review the provisions of the Article, including definitions, draft new or modify existing language, and remove any unnecessary or outdated sections. Staff will review any proposed amendments for consistency throughout the Land Use Code and other amendments related to the sign code update may occur in other Articles of the Land Use Code, such as 4-116.
