Community to ask “What If?” to shape choices for the future at May 11 Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan event

The Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan update is in an important phase as it moves toward completion later this year, and on Wednesday, May 11, the City of Boulder and Boulder County will host an event where members of the community can dig deeper into key issues they have identified over the past year. Now is an important time to give input to shape specific choices, desired outcomes and recommended changes to the plan.

Highlights will include hands-on exercises and feedback on important questions such as: What types of new housing opportunities can or should be created in different parts of Boulder? How can the plan advance the city’s resilience strategy? And how can the city ensure better urban design outcomes?

A presentation about the project and how to be involved will be followed by 60-second pitches from some members of the community presenting lively and thought-provoking pitches about “What If Boulder could…” to help answer these questions. Attendees also can record their own “What If?” pitches in a video booth.

The event is from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Boulder Public Library’s Main Branch, 1001 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, and community members are welcome to come when they wish and stay for as long as they would like. At 5:30 p.m., the planning team will give a presentation on the status of the update process followed by the “What If?” pitches. At 4:15 and 6:30 p.m., 60-minute interactive exercises on housing, design and land use as well as resilience, energy and climate will take place.

Staff from Boulder County and multiple city departments will be in attendance to give information and discuss transportation projects, the community cultural plan, the historic resource survey plan, the just-released resilience strategy and information and a survey about Boulder’s Climate Commitment, and other topics.
