Boulder County, Colo. – Many Boulder County homeowners have been working extremely hard to help prepare for future wildfire and create more resilient communities as part of the new Wildfire Partners program. On Saturday, Oct. 10, Wildfire Partners is inviting interested neighbors and community members to come see mitigation work as part of the inaugural Wildfire Partners Tour of Homes.
The Wildfire Partners Tour of Homes is an opportunity for people to visit Wildfire Partners properties in their community and check out practical wildfire mitigation measures firsthand. Visiting homes and talking to neighbors about their lessons and their solutions is an ideal way for residents to learn about mitigation.
More than a dozen Wildfire Partners homeowners throughout Boulder County’s foothills and mountains are participating in the self-guided tour. These homeowners have participated in an on-site wildfire assessment with a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist and performed some mitigation measures. Many have completed their customized mitigation to-do list, passed their follow-up inspection, and received their Wildfire Partners Certificate of Mitigation.

Wildfire Partners is a
voluntary program that provides homeowners who are interested in
performing mitigation with significant technical and financial support.
The program is funded by participating homeowners, Boulder County, a
$1.5 million grant the Colorado Department of Natural Resources and a
$1.125 million grant from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Since
it was launched in 2014, more than 700 homeowners have enrolled in the
program. Most receive between $500 and $2,000 in financial support in
addition to on-going technical assistance. Homeowners are joining
Wildfire Partners and investing their time and their own funds in
mitigation for a wide range of reasons, including increasing the
insurability of their home, increasing the safety and effectiveness of
their local fire departments, and improving the chances their home will

tour of homes is part of Wildfire Awareness Month. Boulder County
declared October as Wildfire Awareness Month in 2011 based on a
recommendation from residents to help educate the community and promote
individual responsibility in preparing for future wildfires. Wildfire
