Boulder County, Colo. -- Boulder
County’s Transportation Department will begin an overlay project on Monday,
Aug. 17 on upper Lefthand Canyon Drive between mile marker 12 and the Town of
Ward limits. The work will take place from approximately 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
Monday through Friday, and is expected to last until early October, weather
permitting.
During
construction, travel will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic in both
directions. Traffic control personnel will be used to move motor vehicles and
cyclists through the work area. During non-working hours, road conditions in
the construction zone may be less than ideal as the top layers of asphalt will
be removed, so please use caution traveling through the area. Boulder County
will do its best to ensure safe travel for all modes throughout the project’s
duration.
Overlay
operations rehabilitate roads by milling off the old road surface and applying
a new layer of asphalt. Roads will also be restriped after paving operations
are complete. The new surface typically lasts between 15 and 20 years.
Boulder
County Transportation encourages motorists and cyclists to avoid unnecessary
travel on Lefthand Canyon Drive during construction.
While
Boulder County Transportation Maintenance strives to complete all projects
on-time, work is weather dependent and there may be delays due to rain or other
unfavorable working conditions.
