Boulder County, Colo. -- Workforce
Boulder County is hosting a ceremony on Aug. 8 for 20 graduates of its GED
program.
What: Workforce Boulder County GED graduation ceremony When: Saturday, Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. Where: Izaak Walton Clubhouse, 18 South Sunset St. in Longmont
Workforce Boulder
County works with both job seekers and businesses to meet community employment
needs. In today’s economy, it is very difficult to find a decent job without at
least a high school education. Workforce clients, many of whom are currently living
at or below the poverty level, are assisted with GED and college entrance exam
preparation while building the literacy and numeracy skills needed to succeed
in the job marketplace and achieve self-sufficiency.
This year's graduates
expressed pride in their accomplishment, setting examples for their families
and community.
"[This program]
helped me show not only myself, but my children and people of all ages that
moving forward in your education isn't impossible or unachievable, no matter
the situation,” said graduate Sabrina Arnold. “Getting my GED gave me the confidence
to move forward in life.”
Another graduate,
Kiara Mosher, echoed, “I didn’t want to be the stereotypical ‘teen mom’ who had
to drop out of school because I had children at such a young age. I want to
show my children that even when at times, things may seem nearly impossible;
the outcome is always worth it. I may have struggled, but I can finally say, 'I
did it!' I am finally able to move on to the next chapter of my life.” Mosher and
Arnold represent two of 20 GED graduates to be honored at the ceremony.
