On Saturday, October 3, DWR, the Yurok Tribe, and the California Project WET program will host a one-day workshop in Klamath for educators working with students in grades 3 through 12. “Climate Change & California Water” will focus on climate change and its effect on California water resources. At this in-person workshop, educators will engage in activities designed to help students understand the science of climate change and how to adapt to our changing environment. The workshop runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers attendees an opportunity to receive CEU credit and a $120 stipend. Workshop space is limited to the first 30 individuals who register. “Expanding Recharge and Preparing for Wet Weather: On-Farm Recharge Guidance for Practitioners,” the third in a series of 11 webinars focusing on recharge readiness, will take place on Thursday, September 24, at 11 a.m. Registration is open now for this event. Co-hosted by DWR, Sustainable Conservation, and the Flood-MAR Network, these hour-long webinars will be held twice monthly, on the second and fourth Thursdays at 11 a.m., through February. DWR will host the Senate Bill (SB) 552 Drought Resilience Symposium on Thursday, September 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the California Natural Resources Agency building in Sacramento. This event will recognize five years of progress since the passing of SB 552 strengthened drought preparedness for small water systems and rural communities. Activities include a showcase of drought-resilience programs and resources, along with a town hall meeting for participants to discuss their work, experiences, and successes and challenges related to advancing drought resilience. The Flood-MAR Network will host an interactive virtual workshop related to current planning and implementation efforts underway by the State to expand recharge (with a special focus on how Senate Bill 659 is advancing recharge within the California Water Plan). On Tuesday, September 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., DWR will host the second of two public virtual workshops on the 2026 Draft Sustainable Groundwater Management Grant Program Guidelines. The workshop will provide a program overview, review key guideline components, and accept public comments on the guidelines document. The draft procedures and criteria prioritize a 2025 legislative allocation of $3.5 million for small Groundwater Sustainability Agencies and $6.5 million for Underrepresented Communities Technical Assistance, with broader project solicitations expected in early 2027. The California State Water Resources Board will host its third session of the “Getting to Efficiency" technical assistance webinar series in support of Making Conservation a California Way of Life. Building on the previous webinar (“Data 101 – Data Fundamentals for UWUO Reporting”), this session, “Data 201 – Data Sources & Documentation” takes a deeper dive into what is necessary to make data reporting ready. This session will walk through the full data cycle, from identifying who owns key data sources at your agency to establishing best practices for documentation, storage, and stewardship. Staff responsible for urban water use objective (UWUO) data collection, management, and reporting at urban water suppliers and water districts are urged to attend.
