Delta Champions Awards - Dinner on Sept. 10
 The Delta Leadership Foundation will honor its 2026 Delta Champions on Sept. 10 at Delta Diamond Farm in Isleton. Dinner tickets are available here.
This year's Champions are:
Ted Smith (Delta Preserver) Ted is the author of Clarksburg – Water, Land and People and is a longstanding board member of the Friends of the Clarksburg Library and Yolo County Archives.
Charles Van Riper (Delta Promoter) Charles has been an agriculture instructor, FFA advisor, and beloved mentor at Delta High School for nearly 30 years, educating more than 1,000 students during this period.
Jim and Shirley Lira Family (Lira’s) (Delta Improver) Jim and Shirley have been supporting the greater Rio Vista community for more than 36 years by providing support to numerous community organizations and activities through Lira’s Market.
Hemly Family (Delta Legacy Family) The Hemly family forebears arrived in the Delta during the Gold Rush era and have been farming rich river bottom soils since that time, providing agricultural industry leadership and local volunteerism to the greater North Delta community.
Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla (Delta Lifetime Achievement) Barbara has served as Executive Director of Restore the Delta since 2010, providing leadership to the Delta tunnel fight and creating a movement of support for the Delta region.
Construction Starts for New Signal on SR-12
Construction started Aug. 3 on a new signal for Highway 12 at Jackson Slough Road.
Motorists should expect reversing one-way traffic control overnights Monday through Friday, 8 p.m.-5 a.m., during construction, which is expected to run through fall.
Free Delta Invasive Species Tour TOMORROW (Aug. 12)
Three free invasive species tours are being offered this month in California by the Invasive Species Council of California and the California Invasive Species Advisory Committee:
- Delta: Aug. 12
- Northern California (Eureka): Aug. 20
- Southern California (Los Angeles): Aug. 26
The goal of the tours is to highlight and create a shared understanding of California's invasive species prevention system.

Waterfowl Survey: Delta Mallard, Gadwall Populations Up
The Delta's breeding population of mallards was up 32% this spring, going from about 7,000 to 8,200 in one year. Statewide, the breeding population decreased about 1%.
Gadwall were up 422% in the Delta, going from about 150 to 780.
Invasive mute swans - present primarily in the Suisun Marsh and Delta - fell 53%. This was the first year mute swans could be hunted under a new law designed to help protect native wildlife and ecosystems.
Jean Harvie Center Celebrates 100 Years
The Jean Harvie Community Center celebrates its 100th anniversary on Sept. 24.
The event, held 1-4 p.m. at 14273 River Road in Walnut Grove, includes historical displays and photographs, community stories and memories, light refreshments, and a chance to reconnect with friends, neighbors, former students, and generations of community members.
Participants are invited to bring old photographs, memorabilia, and stories about the center.

Major Closures Planned for SR-4 in August
Upcoming Highway 4 closures:
Through Aug. 14: Overnight, one-way traffic control from Whiskey Slough Road in Holt to the Old River Bridge for construction through Friday, August 14, 8 p.m.-4 a.m.
Aug. 14-17: 55-hour full highway closure from Roberts Road to Old River Bridge from 10 p.m. Friday Aug. 14 to 5 a.m. Monday Aug. 17.
Through November: Long-term, 24-hour, one-way traffic control will be implemented on SR-4 at the Old River Bridge (San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line) for construction.
Delta Conveyance Project Community Benefits Program AAPI Outreach Sessions
Information sessions have been scheduled to reach out to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the Delta about the Community Benefits Program of the Delta Conveyance Project. Sessions will be held Aug. 12 on Zoom, and Aug. 15 in Sacramento. Register for sessions.
J-Mack Ferry Closed through Aug. 21
Suspension of service for the J-Mack Ferry has been extended to 12:01 p.m. Aug. 21, according to the Caltrans QuickMap app. View the original announcement.
Harmful Algal Blooms Update
 As of Monday, Aug. 10, these are the locations of harmful algal bloom advisories in the Delta.
For all areas with advisories, stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
