Roundtable discussion on risk and resilience of extreme events
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will webcast an hour-long Resilient America Roundtable meeting on Friday, July 31, starting at 11:30 a.m. The meeting, the 25th of the series to date, will discuss the increasing need to enhance the nation's resilience against natural disasters. Researchers will discuss the state of the science on resilience measurement approaches and frameworks across system types. The discussion will also explore high-priority research areas needed to develop a more comprehensive resilience quantification framework. 11th Annual California Water Data Summit, Los Angeles
Mark your calendars for Wednesday and Thursday, August 19 and 20, to attend the 11th Annual California Water Data Summit in Los Angeles. This year’s theme, “Decade of Destiny,” will explore the digital renaissance of the water industry through thoughtful synchronization of data, technology, and human insight. The summit, hosted by the California Data Collaborative, brings together individuals from water agencies, research teams, and other areas of the water sector; the aim is to encourage collaboration and provide opportunities for members of different organizations to interact and engage with new ideas and approaches to water data. Next Lunch-MAR webinar on Wednesday, August 5
The next Lunch-MAR meeting will feature executive team members from the Groundwater Demand Management (GDW) Network. Their presentation, “Groundwater Demand Management in California: An Overview of Case Studies, Implementation, Economics & Policy,” will examine real-world case studies across the state related to GDW. The discussion will compare measurement methods, funding mechanisms, and the key elements that define successful GDM communities, and explore lessons learned and strategic wins in basin-scale implementation. This hour-long webinar begins at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. Registration is not required to attend.

Webinar on technical assistance for UWUO reporting
The second session of the Getting to Efficiency webinar series for urban water suppliers, a range of technical assistance training webinars offered by the California State Water Resources Control Board, will take place on Wednesday, August 5, from 10–11 a.m. Specifically focusing on the fundamentals of data collection for Urban Water Use Objective (UWUO) reporting, the webinar will cover common challenges with data sources and quality and help participants locate data that is relevant to compliance. Water district and urban water supplier staff tasked with UWUO reporting are encouraged to attend. Register through Zoom to participate.

State Water Board releases dashboard tracking water-use data
The California State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) has created a new transparency tool for tracking efficient water use. The Urban Water Use Objective Dashboard compiles data from urban retail water suppliers across the state. Information tracked includes which water suppliers have submitted reports and how their reported water use compares with conservation objectives and State-mandated reduction targets. Individual supplier report cards can also be viewed, highlighting missing data and any variances or temporary provisions a supplier has been granted. This dashboard directly addresses the Making Conservation a California Way of Life regulation, which establishes conservation goals for water suppliers and aims to create long-term efficiency practices. Suppliers who have questions or who need help reporting data are encouraged to contact the State Water Board at waterconservation@waterboards.ca.gov.
California County Café Series meeting today at 9 a.m.
Partnering with California State Association of Counties (CSAC), DWR will host the next discussion in the California County Café Series this morning at 9 a.m. The hour-long gathering will include a hydro-climate conditions update, policy updates from CSAC, along with brief updates on funding and resources, and relevant State and partner efforts. DWR and CSAC will also invite participant feedback on the format to help shape future gatherings. Registration is required. The California County Café Series is a series of virtual roundtable-style gatherings for county staff and managers responsible for the planning and implementation of Senate Bill 552.
