A Celebration on Wheels through the Delta: American Discovery 250 Relay (Video)

The American Discovery 250 Relay – a 6,800-mile relay from California to Delaware commemorating the nation’s founding – passed through the Delta on July 8. We've got video!
Delta Conveyance Project News
DWR Publishes Draft Revised Certification of Consistency
On Monday, the Department of Water Resources published its draft revised Certification of Consistency with the Delta Plan for the Delta Conveyance Project. The revisions address issues called out (or remanded) by the Delta Stewardship Council in April, related to Sac Sewer’s Harvest Water project and golden mussels.
Publication started the clock on a 10-day public review and comment period. Interested parties should send all comments to DCP_Consistency@water.ca.gov by July 23.
Army Corps Completes One Phase of Review Process
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, finalized its Record of Decision for the proposed Delta Conveyance Project, completing the agency's programmatic environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act.
The decision concludes one phase of the federal review process and allows the Corps to begin evaluating future permit applications for project components within its jurisdiction.

Delta Pear Harvest Matures Early
The California Farm Bureau reports that Bartlett pears are being harvested on average two weeks earlier than usual this year.
Thanks to a spring heat wave, harvesting began June 29.
“This is the earliest we’ve seen in a long time,” Ryan Elliot, a sixth-generation pear grower and operational manager at Stillwater Orchards in Courtland, told the Farm Bureau's Ag Alert.

Save the Date: 2026 Delta Heritage Forum is Nov. 5
 Save the date for the 2026 Delta Heritage Forum: Delta As Culinary Journey, presented by the Delta Protection Commission, with an opening talk by Darrell Corti.

New Direction for Bass Derby
The Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced that Chamber-produced fireworks and food and craft vendor areas will not be included in the 2026 Bass Derby.
Beginning this year, the Chamber will concentrate its efforts on enhancing and growing the Bass Derby fishing tournament, which takes place Oct. 2-4.

The Delta Protection Commission is hiring a Program Manager I with primary responsibilities that are key to the DPC’s mission: regional economy and recreation. The deadline to apply is July 27. Learn more and apply.
Applications Remain Open for Seat on Delta Protection Advisory Committee
Applications to fill the Utilities-Related Infrastructure seat on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee will remain open until the position is filled. Learn more and apply.
Applications Open for Delta NHA Advisory Committee Through July 20
Applications are open for five seats and one alternate position on the Delta National Heritage Area Advisory Committee. The committee advises the Delta Protection Commission about implementation of the National Heritage Area Management Plan, and its members act as ambassadors to the diverse partners and communities in the NHA. Applications close at 5 p.m. July 20. Learn more and apply.
Delta Conveyance Project Community Benefits Program AAPI Outreach Sessions
Information sessions have been scheduled to reach out to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the Delta about the Community Benefits Program of the Delta Conveyance Project. Sessions will be held July 29 on Zoom, Aug. 12 on Zoom, and Aug. 15 in Sacramento. Register for sessions.

Weekend-Long Full Closure and One-Way Traffic Controls on State Route 4
One more 55-hour full highway closure of State Route 4 from Roberts Road to the San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line is planned for 10 p.m. Friday, July 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 20.
Overnight, intermittent one-way traffic control from SR-99 to the San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line for pavement work goes 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Friday, July 17.

J-Mack Ferry Closed through July 24
Suspension of service for the J-Mack Ferry has been extended to 12:01 p.m. July 24, according to the Caltrans QuickMap app. View the original announcement.
Harmful Algal Blooms Update
 As of Monday, July 13, these are the locations of harmful algal bloom advisories in the Delta.
For all areas with advisories, stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
