Work for the DPC: Now Recruiting Program Manager I
 The Delta Protection Commission is hiring a Program Manager I with primary responsibilities that are key to the DPC’s mission: regional economy and recreation. If you love rural places and want meaningful opportunities to protect them, this might be the job for you.
State Confirms Northernmost Detection of Golden Mussel in Port of W. Sacramento
Invasive golden mussels have been found in and around the Port of West Sacramento, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed last week.
This is the northernmost detection of golden mussel since the species was discovered in the Port of Stockton in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in 2024.
Golden mussels are harmful to aquatic ecosystems, water conveyance systems and water infrastructure. Learn more.

The Delta Celebrates America’s 250th
As the 4th of July approaches, explore opportunities in the Delta to reflect, gather, and celebrate as the nation turns 250.
Ways to Celebrate
- Check out the VisitCADelta Events page for upcoming events.
- Join America’s Potluck, a nonpartisan initiative led by America250 Utah, to gather with neighbors for a potluck on Sunday, July 5. Check out the California guide to America’s Potluck with all the details and a California Potluck Recipe flipbook compiled by CA GROWN.
- Download the special edition California State Parks Historian Passport, free (typically costs $50) through the Fourth of July weekend. The Historian Passport is valid for the rest of 2026 at more than 30 state historic parks.
- Participate in Sharing the Spirit of America, a nonpartisan initiative led by the Hawai‘i America250 Commission to read the Declaration of Independence on July 8, at 3 p.m. Pacific - 250 years to the day after its first public reading. Review the California guide for more details.

Caltrans: Emergency Moveable Bridges Project in Delta Complete
Caltrans District 3 reports on Facebook that the Emergency-Moveable Bridges Project in the Sacramento Delta has been completed.
The project upgraded mechanical and electrical operational systems on the Three Mile Slough Bridge, Isleton Bridge, Steamboat Slough Bridge and Paintersville Bridge.

Applications Remain Open for Seat on Delta Protection Advisory Committee
Applications to fill the Utilities-Related Infrastructure seat on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee will remain open until the position is filled. Learn more and apply here.
2026 Delta Champions Nominations Open through July 3
Nominations are open for the 2026 Delta Champion awards. The awards, a program of the Delta Leadership Foundation, honor people or institutions in the following categories: Delta Preserver, Delta Promoter, Delta Improver, Delta Legacy Family, Delta Lifetime Achievement. The honorees will be celebrated Sept. 10 at a dinner in Isleton. The deadline to nominate is July 3.
Applications Open for Delta NHA Advisory Committee Through July 20
Applications are open for five seats and one alternate position on the Delta National Heritage Area Advisory Committee. The committee advises the Delta Protection Commission about implementation of the National Heritage Area Management Plan, and its members act as ambassadors to the diverse partners and communities in the NHA. Applications close at 5 p.m. July 20. Learn more and apply.
Delta Conveyance Project Community Benefits Program AAPI Outreach Sessions
Information sessions have been scheduled to reach out to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the Delta about the Community Benefits Program of the Delta Conveyance Project. Sessions will be held July 29 on Zoom, Aug. 12 on Zoom, and at another date TBD in Sacramento. Register for sessions here.
ROADS, BRIDGES, AND FERRIES
Weekend-Long Full Closures and One-Way Traffic Controls on State Route 4
Two 55-hour full highway closures of State Route 4 from Roberts Road to the San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line are planned for July:
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 13
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 20
Long-term, 24-hour, one-way traffic control will be in place on SR-4 at the Old River Bridge (San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line) for construction through November.

J-Mack Ferry Closed through July 8
Service for the J-Mack Ferry will be suspended for scheduled maintenance through July 8. During the service interruption, motorists are advised to use the Real McCoy II Ferry or the Miner's Slough Bridge. Learn more.

July 16: Delta Protection Commission meets at 5 p.m. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
July 16: Delta Independent Science Board meets. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
July 22: The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy board meets 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
July 23-24: Delta Stewardship Council meets. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
August 4: Delta Protection Advisory Committee meets. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
September 23: Delta NHA Advisory Committee meets. The agenda will be posted here at least 10 days in advance.
