Applications Open for Delta Heritage Committee
 Applications have opened for five seats and one alternate position on the Delta National Heritage Area Advisory Committee.
The committee advises the Delta Protection Commission about implementation of the National Heritage Area Management Plan, and its members act as ambassadors to the diverse partners and communities in the NHA.
Applications close at 5 p.m. July 20.
RTD Report: Rice in the Delta
Restore the Delta released a report on Friday about the potential of rice farming to combat subsidence while maintaining a sustainable regional economy, and what's needed to support this crop.
Rice Residue: Potential Use Cases in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (PDF) calls for developing a regional grain mill to address costly shipping requirements for Delta rice farmers and take advantage locally of valuable rice byproducts. Most rice infrastructure in the state is located in the Sacramento Valley.

BRET BARTHOLOMEW - SBJ 40 UNDER 40
Delta Leadership Program 2026 alum Bret Bartholomew has been named one of Sacramento Business Journal's 40 Under 40.
40 Under 40 recognizes the Sacramento area's best and brightest young professionals and emerging leaders. Bartholomew is the founder and principal of Bartholomew Solutions.
"A lot of what I do today started with simply getting involved in the community, volunteering, attending events, meeting people, and trying to help where I could," he wrote on LinkedIn.
"Over time, I’ve learned that a conversation becomes a partnership, and a local connection can turn into regional impact. It’s amazing how those opportunities and relationships can grow over time."

ALLIE UMEMOTO - NAAPPPA 40 UNDER 40
Allie Umemoto has been named one of the National Association of Asian Pacifics in Politics and Public Affairs 2026 40 Under 40.
Umemoto is legislative director for Assm. Rhodesia Ransom, who is an ex officio member of the Delta Protection Commission.
"I wouldn’t be where I am today without organizations, like NAAPPPA, that uplift and celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander communities in policy and politics careers," Umemoto said. "I’m truly grateful for this recognition and appreciate everyone who has supported me throughout my career in the California State Legislature."

Habitat Restoration Projects: Ask Questions, Learn, Share your Views
Delta residents, landowners, and other interested parties can learn, ask questions and share their thoughts about habitat restoration projects at the Delta Restoration Forum on June 18 at Bogle Family Vineyards in Clarksburg.
The Forum, scheduled for 1:30-4 p.m. is cohosted by the Delta Plan Interagency Implementation Committee (DPIIC) and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy. It will be an open-house format, featuring restoration projects across the Delta and Suisun Marsh.
The Forum will be preceded by the DPIIC Restoration Subcommittee meeting 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., followed by lunch 12:30-1:30 p.m., provided by the California Sea Grant. Registration is required for lunch and the forum.
2026 Delta Champions Nominations Open
 Nominations are open for the 2026 Delta Champion awards.
The awards, a program of the Delta Leadership Foundation, honor people or institutions in the following categories:
- Delta Preserver – Achievement in historical or environmental preservation
- Delta Promoter – Achievement in tourism, agriculture, education, commerce, and/or the arts
- Delta Improver – Achievement in Delta health, community, and/or quality of life
- Delta Legacy Family – A family that has contributed to the Delta for at least 100 years through multi-generational professional and volunteer activities that have enhanced the quality of life of the region.
- Delta Lifetime Achievement – Lifetime achievement in preservation, protection, and promotion of the Delta
The honorees will be celebrated at a dinner Sept. 10 in Isleton.
The deadline to nominate is July 3.
Registration Open for Interweaving Traditional Knowledge Roundtable Series Kickoff
 Registration is open for the June 30 kickoff of the Interweaving Traditional Knowledge Roundtable Series.
Co-hosted by the Delta Stewardship Council, the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, and the California Indian Environmental Alliance, this series (PDF) will bring together Tribal Elders and leaders, agencies, and scientists to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore practical approaches to interweaving Traditional Knowledge, management, and science.
The June 30 event explores Traditional Knowledge, Tribal history, and collaborative approaches to stewardship in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. It will be held 9 a.m. to noon at the California Natural Resources Agency building in Sacramento, and it includes a remote attendance option.
Other events in the series will be held July 14 and 28.

Help shape the future of public art in West Sacramento! The Public Art Strategic Plan survey is available, and the city is inviting community members to share their ideas and feedback on public art across the city.

Public Art is a critical part of the West Sacramento community. It encourages pedestrian, scooter, and bicycle travel by adding visual interest and wayfinding to the public streetscape, and enriching the pedestrian and bicycling experience.

Applications to fill the Utilities-Related Infrastructure seat on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee will remain open until the position is filled. Learn more and apply here.
Rice Incentive Program Deadline: June 15
June 15 is the deadline to submit concept proposals for a Delta Rice Incentive Program to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy. The Conservancy anticipates awarding two to three grants to eligible organizations serving various populations of farmers. Learn more about the program.
Delta Conveyance Project Community Benefits Program AAPI Outreach Sessions
Information sessions have been scheduled to reach out to the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the Delta about the Community Benefits Program of the Delta Conveyance Project. Sessions will be held June 12 in Stockton, June 13 in Sacramento, July 29 on Zoom, Aug. 12 on Zoom, and at another date TBD in Sacramento. Register for sessions here.

Weekend-Long, Overnight, and Day-long Closures on State Route 4
Two 55-hour full highway closures of State Route 4 from Roberts Road to the San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line are planned for July:
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 10-5 a.m. Monday, July 13
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 17-5 a.m. Monday, July 20

Overnight closures of SR-4 between Vasco Road and Byron Highway in Contra Costa County are scheduled to go through Wednesday, June 3. Closures will run from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Learn more.
J-Mack Ferry Closed through July 8
Service for the J-Mack Ferry will be suspended for scheduled maintenance through July 8. During the service interruption, motorists are advised to use the Real McCoy II Ferry or the Miner's Slough Bridge. Learn more.
Caltrans Work on Old River Bridge on SR-4
Upgrades and repairs of the Old River Bridge on State Route 4, located at the San Joaquin/Contra Costa County line, east of Discovery Bay, will result in 24-hour one-way traffic controls through November. Learn more (PDF) and see the latest updates.
