Notification and Request for Input: Recovery Planning for Mohave Ground Squirrel Under the California Endangered Species Act
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is initiating recovery planning for Mohave ground squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis), which is listed as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA; Fish & G. Code, §2079.1). This process is intended to guide the development of an effective and actionable recovery plan for Mohave ground squirrel. We are soliciting feedback on recovery planning for the species.
Recovery planning for Mohave ground squirrel will follow the Department’s Guidelines for Recovery Planning, which can be found at the CESA Recovery Planning web page at: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/CESA/Recovery-Planning. Once a draft recovery plan is developed, CDFW will solicit public comment, and a copy of the draft plan will be made available on CDFW’s recovery planning webpage.
CDFW requests any information relevant to recovery planning for Mohave ground squirrel. To submit information or if you have any questions regarding this notification, the CDFW’s Mohave ground squirrel recovery plan, or would like to receive an update on the progress of this species’ recovery process, please contact Austin Roy, CESA Recovery Coordinator, Wildlife Branch at CESARecovery@wildlife.ca.gov.
