Webinar about inundation mapping, this Friday
The next webinar in Sacramento State’s Office of Water Program’s Water Seminar Series will take place this Friday, April 17, from noon to 1 p.m. Inundation Mapping for California State Water Project Dams and Critical Appurtenant Structures will feature Dr. Thomas Molls, who leads DWR’s Division of Engineering’s Hydraulic Section. His presentation will discuss how DWR develops regulatory inundation maps for State Water Project dams and critical appurtenant structures. Inundation maps show flooding that could result from a dam breach, as well as the related critical appurtenant structures are an important part of emergency planning and response. Public comment period closing for Kern Subbasin GSPs
Next Monday, April 20, the 75-day public comment period will close for the amended groundwater sustainability plans (GSPs), which includes a coordination agreement submitted to DWR for the Kern Subbasin. The Kern Subbasin was returned to DWR’s jurisdiction by the State Water Resources Control Board last December. The GSPs will be reviewed by DWR, and public comments are considered as part of the review. Links to the GSPs are provided in the DWR press release about this public comment period for this project. Information about how to comment can be found in a public comment factsheet available in English and Spanish. Public comments are welcomed and encouraged.

WSN to host virtual discussion on safe, affordable drinking water
Watershed Solutions Network (WSN) will host a virtual conversation with the Community Water Center, Self-Help Enterprises, and community members directly affected by unsafe drinking water. This online event will explore what is needed to provide safe, affordable drinking water and sanitation to all communities and how it is everyone’s responsibility to create this reality. Join WSN on Thursday, April 23, at noon for the Human Right to Water virtual workshop. Registration is required for this two-hour event.

Today’s WestFAST webinar to present recent DOE research
The first WestFAST webinar of 2026 is happening today at 9 a.m. Today’s meeting will discuss recent U.S. Department of Energy Energy-Water Resources Program research on the interdependencies of energy and water systems in the context of rapid data center growth. Drawing on ongoing analysis and national laboratory efforts, this research highlights how energy and water demands are increasingly constraining infrastructure development, the tradeoffs associated with different cooling technologies, and emerging approaches to support coordinated, basin-scale planning and resource management. This will be a public webinar and no registration is required.
