The California Energy Commission (CEC) has learned of a purported Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Provider website that is not authorized as part of the CEC’s HERS program and might be fraudulent and harmful if used. CEC staff confirms that CalCERTS, Inc. ceased its operations on September 2, 2024, and terminated its registration with the California Office of the Secretary of State on February 25, 2025.
Much of the content presented under the calcerts.com domain is, at best, outdated and misleading because no organization named CalCERTS is currently authorized by the CEC to operate as a HERS Provider. At worst, it could be a scam. It is possible that an entity published the site for the purpose of defrauding the public, including past data registry users attempting to recover account access or consumers seeking Energy Code compliance services. Anyone accessing the website and its pages should be cautious about providing any information because the website may be fraudulent and harmful.
