Delta Conveyance Project Certification Appealed
The Delta Protection Commission was one of 10 parties that filed appeals on Nov. 17 of the certification of consistency for the Delta Conveyance Project.
Information about the Commission's appeal - including a link to the appeal - is here.
All appeals can be accessed here.
A public hearing for the appeals is scheduled for Feb. 26-27 (PDF).
The appeals were filed with the Delta Stewardship Council, whose role is to uphold the Delta Plan. Appeals contend the project is not consistent with the Delta Plan.
If the Council upholds any of the appeals, the Project could be remanded to the Department of Water Resources to address Delta Plan inconsistencies.
Comments on Delta Science Plan Sought
The Delta Stewardship Council's Delta Science Program is developing the third iteration of the Delta Science Plan, which outlines the vision, principles, and approaches that guide science in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
The Plan, updated every five years, works to improve coordination across the Delta science community and strengthen communication of scientific findings to policymakers. This helps address the region’s natural resource management challenges more effectively.
The draft 2026 Delta Science Plan is available for public review (PDF) and comment. Comments are accepted through Jan. 20, and may be submitted through this online survey, emailed to collaborativescience@deltacouncil.ca.gov, or mailed to Delta Stewardship Council - Delta Science Program, Collaborative Science and Peer Review Unit, 715 P Street, 15-300, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Call for Ecologically Themed Art
The Interagency Ecological Program is accepting proposals for ecologically themed artwork, including paintings, drawings, sculptures or other objects and digital artwork such as nature photos and digital art. The deadline is Jan. 16.
Works will be displayed at the California Natural Resources Agency Building to be viewed by participants of the 2026 IEP Workshop as they move between first- and second-floor meeting spaces.
Download a PDF of the flyer here. Proposals can be submitted using this form. Questions may be directed to Katie Osborn (Katherine.Osborn@water.ca.gov) and Brian Schreier (Brian.Schreier@water.ca.gov).
The IEP was formed over 50 years ago to provide sound scientific information to water managers, the public, and the scientific community in the San Francisco Estuary.
'Big Notch' Operations Begin
Operations have begun for the Big Notch Project, one of the largest floodplain salmon-rearing habitat projects in California history.
The Department of Water Resources kicked off the first operational season of the Big Notch Project last month.
The project includes three seasonally operated gates at the Fremont Weir, making it easier for juvenile salmon and sturgeon to move into the Yolo Bypass. The Bypass is a critical floodplain habitat that plays a key role in the recovery of these threatened and endangered species.
Delta Invasive Species Symposium This Week
The 2025 Delta Invasive Species Symposium will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, in Sacramento and online. In-person attendance is capped, but online participation is unlimited.
The biennial Symposium is a forum for Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta managers, researchers, and decision-makers to meet, share and synthesize information, and communicate best practices and lessons learned. This year’s theme is “Modeling and Managing Invasive Species for Tomorrow’s Delta.”
