Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area Reopens for Camping September 5
|

GORMAN — Today, California State Parks announced that Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) will reopen for camping beginning Friday, Sept. 5. In June 2024, the Post Fire scorched large sections of the eastern and southern portions of Hungry Valley SVRA, including many of the off-highway vehicle trails. Thanks to ongoing recovery efforts, many areas have been reopened, while others remain temporarily closed for public safety. Updates on the park’s recovery and a map of the current open trails can be found here and at the end of this release.
Here is what visitors need to know about today’s announcement:

Camping is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to the first 50 campers each day.

Camping fees are $10 per night. Payment and registration are handled at the north entrance kiosk in Gorman.

The following campgrounds are open for day use and camping: Edison, Sterling, Cottonwood, Circle, Upper Scrub, Lower Scrub, Smith Forks, ATV and Aliklik.

Enter the park through the north entrance in Gorman. The south entrance remains closed.

A total of 103 vehicles will be allowed each day in addition to the 50 camping sites, including 30 recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs, side-by-sides and UTVs).
- On weekdays, visitation will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the drive-in vehicle limit is reached.

On weekends, reservations are required and can be made through the LAZ Parking app or website. Visitors without reservations will not be admitted.

Day-use parking fee is $5 per day.
