2025 FMA annual conference, Sept. 2–5, in Sacramento
The Floodplain Management Association (FMA) will be celebrating 40 years at its upcoming annual conference in Sacramento, Tuesday–Friday, Sept. 2–5. DWR’s Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP) team will share their progress and technical insights at two sessions, both on Tuesday, Sept 2:
- “2027 CVFPP Update: Strengthening California’s Flood Resilience through Innovation and Collaboration.” CVFPP team members will discuss key updates to analytical procedures shaping the 2027 CVFPP Update. Expect an in-depth look at how the plan is evolving to meet California’s dynamic flood management needs. This discussion is from 9–10:25 a.m.
- “CVFPP Update Overview, Portal Demonstration and Conservation Integration.” Learn about the overall direction of the 2027 CVFPP Update and how DWR is integrating new strategies to address climate adaptation and multibenefit outcomes. This session will also introduce the new CVFPP Portal — a collaborative platform designed to improve transparency, partner input, and project tracking throughout the planning process. This discussion is from 1–2:25 p.m.

RWA virtual Coffee and Conversation with Paul Gosselin, Aug 28
Hosted by the Sacramento Regional Water Authority (RWA), the next virtual "Coffee and Conversation" will be with Paul Gosselin, Deputy Director for Sustainable Groundwater Management at DWR. The online discussion will explore how implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act is evolving — from the initial push to develop groundwater sustainability plans to today’s focus on refinement, communication, and regional collaboration. Paul will share how DWR’s Sustainable Groundwater Management team has grown, what he sees as key priorities in this next phase, and how State and local agencies can work together to advance sustainable groundwater management through innovation, technical support, and adaptive strategies. Registration is required for this hour-long event, which starts at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Interactive map offers technical assistance for wildfire projects
The California Wildfire & Forest Resilience Task Force has launched a new online resource to help applicants find technical assistance for wildfire projects in the state. The new interactive map of California provides contacts that can assist applicants with project development and implementation for each county in the state. Users click on a county shown on the state map to pull up a list of agency representatives organized by title, name, and email address. The webpage also provides a summary of wildfire-related programs available by agency.
