State's swift progress to fast-track critical wildfire projects
On March 1, Governor Newsom issued an emergency proclamation to expedite critical fuels reduction projects to address “catastrophic wildfire risks created by forest conditions across the state.” The proclamation authorizes the Secretaries of the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) and the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) to determine which projects are eligible for suspension of certain State statutory and regulatory requirements to expedite critical fuels reduction projects, while protecting public health and the environment. To date, 72 projects have been approved, 13 projects are underway, and 2 have been completed. More information about each project is available on the interactive map available on the CalEPA/CNRA approved project information dashboard. For a list of FAQs related to the Statewide Fuels Reduction Environmental Protection Plan or to request assistance with a project design and application, visit the Requests to Suspend State Statutes and Regulations webpage on the California Wildlife & Forest Resilience Task Force website.
