This notice serves as a reminder of California’s streamlining laws to expedite the permitting of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by local jurisdictions (localities). Assembly Bills (AB) 1236 (Chiu, 2015) and AB 970 (McCarty and Chiu, 2021) added EV charger streamlining laws to the California Government Code (GOV) Sections 65850.7 and 65850.71.
Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued a legal alert to remind local jurisdictions about the requirements to streamline and expedite EV charging station permits. A copy of the alert - PDF, including the requirements for localities, is available online.
