PPIC report studies 2023 Central Valley water conditions
The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) released a report last month that takes a high-level look at 2023 water conditions in the Central Valley, the State’s largest watershed. How Much Water Is Available for Groundwater Recharge in the Central Valley? examines the amount of water needed to comply with environmental regulations in the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta and how much might have been made available for other purposes, including groundwater recharge. This analysis also provides a starting point for understanding opportunities and constraints in drier years, when the tradeoffs with downstream uses — particularly exports from the south Delta by the State and federal water projects — would loom larger.

LCI Planning Guidelines update: second workshop added
Science for Communities project submission deadline extended
The Delta Stewardship Council (DSC) has extended the deadline to submit project ideas for their 2025–2026 Science for Communities (SFC) initiative. The new deadline is Friday, July 18. Communities, including tribes and local public agencies, that reside in or have ties to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta or Suisun Marsh are invited to participate in the initiative. The initiative promotes the sharing of knowledge, tools, and data to support relationship building, collaboration to address social-environmental issues, and funding access for further research and training. Project ideas must be submitted via the DSC’s survey form. Projects will begin in summer 2025 and be completed in fall 2026. To learn more, please see the DSC’s SFC information sheet.
