DPC Seeks Executive Director
The Delta Protection Commission is seeking a new Executive Director to guide protection and enhancement of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region.
“The Delta is rich in natural resources, agricultural production, history, and diverse communities and cultures. But it’s also a fragile place that needs our protection and support,” said Commission Chair Diane Burgis, who is a Contra Costa County supervisor.
“We’re looking for someone who can navigate the complexities of working with a variety of local, state, and federal agencies while providing strong vision, leadership, and direction for a staff of eight,” Burgis said.

June 18 Tour of Stone Lakes NWR Highlights Recycled Water Project
The public is invited to join the California Water Commission for a tour of the Harvest Water Program in Elk Grove tomorrow, June 18.
The Harvest Water Program is a project of the Sacramento Area Sewer District, the first to receive funding from the California Water Commission's Water Storage Investment Program. It uses high-quality recycled water for agricultural and habitat purposes.
The tour is expected to begin at approximately 1 p.m. at the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, 1624 Hood-Franklin Road, Elk Grove. It will last 2.5 hours. Tour bus seating is limited. Register here.
Abandoned Barges Removed
The State Lands Commission has completed a massive abandoned vessel removal project in the Delta - its biggest ever. Known as the Skarry site (pronounced "scary"), it contained several large crane barges, two tugboats, and smaller work and recreational vessels.
The Commission removed almost 1,000 tons of debris and more than 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel from the site. It recycled scrap metal from the vessels and hauled debris to a landfill for disposal.
The State Lands Commission is represented on the Delta Protection Commission by Brian Bugsch, chief of State Lands' Land Management Division.
Yolo Bat Talk and Tour Resumes for Summer
The Yolo Basin Foundation Bat Talk and Tour resumes June 23, with events running through Sept. 26.
The tour gets people up close for the nightly departure of hundreds of thousands of bats as they leave the Yolo Causeway to hunt the insects that thrive in the valley's agricultural abundance.
Learn more and register for the tours here.
