Governor Proposes Fast-tracking Delta Tunnel
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a proposal Wednesday to streamline the Delta Conveyance Project.
The proposal would simplify permitting, confirm funding authority, prevent unnecessary litigation delays, and support construction.
Delta Protection Commission Reappoints 3, Appoints 2 to Advisory Committee
 The Delta Protection Commission appointed two new members and re-appointed three incumbents to the Delta Protection Advisory Committee (DPAC) on Thursday.
The incumbents who were reappointed are Arron Pellarin, Delta Business (Seat 1); Russell Ryan, Delta Water Exporter; and Anna Swenson, Delta General Public (Seat 1). The new appointees are Jerred Dixon for the Delta Conservation/Habitat NGO seat and Jeffrey Twitchell to the Delta Flood Entity seat.
DPC: Accepting Applications for Mid-Term Opening on DPAC
The Delta Protection Commission is accepting applications for a seat on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee (DPAC). There is an opening for Agriculture Seat 1 due to a mid-term resignation. The deadline to apply is June 30.
San Joaquin County Unveils 175th Anniversary Seal
The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors unveiled the county's 175th Anniversary Commemorative Seal, featuring the winning artwork by student A. Vasquez, titled "How Far We've Come."
The seal will be used throughout 2025 in official County communications and celebrations to mark this historic milestone.
The design was selected through a contest that invited students in grades 7 through 12 to submit artwork inspired by the theme “175 Years of Growing Greatness.” Vasquez's entry was selected for its artistic depth, historical symbolism, and forward-looking message.

Fish and Game Vessel Mates Sought
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Interagency Ecological Program is seeking three mates/vessel operators to pilot a fleet of diesel-powered and gasoline-powered research vessels up to 115 feet in length.
Mates also ensure the longevity of the fleet with regular upkeep and maintenance. They are also trained and occasionally assist as deck hands to aid vessel operations, assist with sampling gear, and on occasion will assist with fish handling and identification.
The deadline to apply is May 30.

 May 20 in Walnut Grove: The Sacramento River Delta Historical Society Annual Member Dinner - features special guest Mike Dunne, presenting on "The history of Grapes, Wines, and Vineyards in the Sacramento River Delta." Signup required at Eventbrite or by emailing srdhspresident@gmail.com. 6-9 p.m., 14273 River Road.
May 31 in:
Isleton: Grand Opening of Asian American Heritage Park - celebration includes Sacramento Taiko Dan, Capitol Chinese Orchestra, refreshments, and museum tours. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 27 Main St.
Rio Vista: Riverfront Arts Fest - activities and entertainment for all ages, including music, food, and craft vendors. Artists can compete for cash prizes in the People's Choice Art Show, with the top three places receiving $100, $75, and $50. The art entry deadline is May 23.
June 7 in Walnut Grove: Bird walk at the Delta Meadows Park Property. Leave the parking lot in Walnut Grove at 9 a.m. to walk along levee trails in search of birds in waterways, meadows, and trees. All ages and experience levels welcome. Binoculars recommended but not required. Bring water and sun protection. Parking for the property is off of Levee Road in Walnut Grove, across the street from the Delta Cross Channel Gates.
June 7 and 9 in Walnut Grove: Just Transitions in the Delta presents its work to date exploring water management possibilities at an interactive exhibition 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 7, and an open gallery and public workshop 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 9. Register here.
June 12 in Walnut Grove: Take a meditative walk through the Delta Meadows Park Property starting at 10 a.m., led by park staff. Parking for the property is off of Levee Road in Walnut Grove, across the street from the Delta Cross Channel Gates.
June 14 in Locke: Immersive guided tour of the Locke Boarding House Museum. Tour begins at 1 p.m. at 13916 Main St.
June 28 in Oakley: Oakley Summer Fest - a family-friendly festival with activities, dance, crafts, games, food trucks, and more. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza and on Main Street from O'Hara Avenue to Vintage Parkway.

Caution advisory: Contra Loma Reservoir. Advice: Stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
