Delta Stewardship Council Adopts Tribal/Environmental Justice Issue Paper
The Tribal and Environmental Justice Issue Paper adopted last month by the Delta Stewardship Council recommends that agencies working in the Delta:
- Invest in relationship- and trust-building.
- Work through trusted community partners.
- Be intentional and justice-oriented.
- Make it easy to participate early and often.
- Follow through.
- Enhance coordination and connections between and within state agencies and local governments.
- Identify and fill research and data needs and effectively communicate findings.
The issue paper represents a four-year effort to better understand the history of tribal and environmental justice in the Delta, current issues, and how the Council can better incorporate tribal and environmental justice perspectives into its work.
