California Acts to Halt Golden Mussel Invasion, Offers Grants to Boating Facility Operators

In response to the detection of golden mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) last year in the Delta, California has developed a comprehensive Golden Mussel Response Framework (PDF) to address this urgent invasive species threat.
In addition, the Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering $1 million in grant funding to boating facility operators to aid efforts against invasive mussels, particularly golden mussels. There is a grant webinar at 11 a.m. TODAY.
Delta Conservancy Has $29M. Where Should It Go?
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy has received $29 million from Proposition 4, the 2024 initiative that authorized bonds for safe drinking water, wildfire prevention, and protecting communities and natural lands from climate risks.
The Conservancy will distribute the funds as grants to support projects benefitting the Delta, including community initiatives, habitat restoration, rice conversion, and potentially more. It is seeking seeking community feedback to decide how funds should be used.

Save the Dates: Just Transitions in the Delta - June 7, 9
 Just Transitions in the Delta, a project exploring future water management possibilities using participatory scenario planning, will present its work to date in June.
There will be an interactive exhibition 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 7 and an open gallery and public workshop 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 9. Both will be held in Walnut Grove. Register here.

April 26 (Rio Vista Bridge scheduled to be closed):
In Davis: California Duck Days, a family-oriented outdoor festival with nature-themed arts and crafts, live animals, wetland science activities, interactive exhibits, Wildlife Area tours, and food trucks. $25 per car, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters, 4521 County Road 32B (East Chiles Road). This event is co-sponsored by the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area and Delta Protection Commission.
In Rio Vista: Rio Vista Fire Department Hotshots and Professional Firefighters Association Fun, Food, and Gaming Fundraiser. 4:30-9 p.m. at 45 Main St.
On Sherman Island: Sherman Island Cleanup - clean a 1.6-mile stretch of the Sacramento River along the north side of Sherman Island. 9 a.m.-noon., meet at "the sign."
April 29 in Walnut Grove: Locke Town Hall sponsored by Sacramento County Supervisor Pat Hume and Deputy Sacramento County Executive Dave Defanti. 6-7:30 p.m. at the Jean Harvie Community Center.
April 30 in Brentwood: Water Wars: Water History of California to the Delta Conveyance Project - part of the Los Medanos College adult lecture series. 1 p.m. at the Brentwood Campus, 1351 Pioneer Square. $19 to register.
May 10 in Locke (Rio Vista Bridge scheduled to be closed): Asian Pacific Spring Festival - lion dance, martial arts, taiko drums, dance, music, brush painting. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Main Street.
May 31 in Isleton: Grand Opening of Asian American Heritage Park - celebration includes Sacramento Taiko Dan, Capitol Chinese Orchestra, refreshments, and museum tours. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., 27 Main St.

Caution advisory: Contra Loma Reservoir. Advice: Stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
