The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) will host an online update on the L.A. fires at noon today. “Update on the Los Angeles Fires: Ongoing Threats and the Road to Recovery” will discuss continuing impacts and threats and how we can work together to support assistance, recovery, and rebuilding for Los Angeles. The virtual event, part of the Secretary Speaker Series, will run one hour and include speakers from CAL FIRE, DWR, the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force, and the Irvine Ranch Conservancy. CNRA Secretary Wade Crowfoot will moderate. Registration is free but required to join this online discussion.

In an online tutorial and meeting to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, DWR will provide an overview of the Water Shortage Vulnerability Scoring and Tool features and underlying data, demonstrate how to navigate and apply the tool to commonly asked questions, and offer opportunities for participants to ask questions and discuss potential uses. This event runs one hour and starts at 9:00 a.m. Registration is required to attend this online event.

The Floodplain Forward Coalition is making impressive progress in reactivating the Sacramento River Basin’s floodplains to deliver multiple benefits — from enhancing flood protection to supporting thriving ecosystems. The first Conservation Lecture Series event of 2025, sponsored by the California State Library and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, will be on Thursday evening, Feb. 6. “Explore the Biodiversity of California” will delve into California’s imperiled biodiversity and what is being done to help conserve it. The discussion will also look at the State’s 30x30 initiative to conserve 30% of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030. The 90-minute online event begins at 7:00 p.m. Registration is required. This lecture will be recorded, and an archive will be available a week after the session.
