Update 2023 Water Balances supporting document online
California Water Plan Update 2023 (Update 2023) draws from and builds on reference documents related to water resources to enhance the content and produce a better plan with each succeeding update. Among these many reference documents is the California Water Plan Update 2023 Water Balances Support Document, which describes the distribution of water throughout the hydrologic cycle, water use by the urban and agricultural sectors, water in the environment, and water supply sources used to meet these uses at the statewide and regional levels. This 25-page document is available online to read or download as a PDF.

CNRA to host Cutting Green Tape virtual discussion today
Today, from noon to 1 p.m., the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) will host a Cutting Green Tape panel discussion on overcoming the challenges in reducing governmental bureaucracy and delays on ecological restoration projects. Moderated by CNRA Secretary Wade Crowfoot, The Race to Restore Nature: Cutting the Green Tape for California’s Environment will feature six experts from county and State agencies and non-government partners. Flood-MAR project featured in fall 2024 USCID newsletter
Faced with an absence of surface water supplies and limited access to floodwater from the Chowchilla Bypass system, the Aliso Water District (AWD) employed flood-managed aquifer recharge (Flood-MAR) strategies to its Chowchilla Bypass Turnout project. This successful project, which allows the AWD to again operate sustainably, is detailed in the U.S. Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID) fall 2024 newsletter now available online. LCI and SGC catalyst convening virtual workshop, Dec. 13
The Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) and the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) will host a webinar on Friday, Dec. 13, to solicit input on improving annual catalyst convenings and the LCI local government roundtables, with the goal of integrating local perspectives into State policy actions. Local and regional government staff, Tribal leaders, government partners, and other interested parties are invited to help inform the roundtable structure, format, and topics. The online workshop runs two hours, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is free.
Survey now online – 2024 Review of State Plans and Policies
The State Water Resources Control Board has released the 2024 Review of State Plans and Policies Online Survey. The survey aims to solicit early input from interested persons, agencies, and Tribes to help shape future amendments to State plans and policies. Additional information, including the open date range to submit survey responses, is provided on the Notice of Availability of Online Survey.
CARCD Annual Conference coming to Sacramento, Dec. 10–12
The California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) will host its 79th annual conference, next Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 10–12. This year’s event, titled Transforming Challenges into Opportunities, will serve as a platform for federal and State agencies, non-profits, private industries, farming communities, and resource conservation districts to collaborate and address pressing natural resource issues. Registration is free but limited.
SRRR to host its final virtual workshop in series, Dec. 11
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Sustainable & Resilient Resources Roundtable (SRRR) will present the seventh and final online workshop in its Actions to Meet Challenges to Sustaining Lives on Earth series. The workshop, Building Capacities for Inner Resilience in the Face of Challenges, will focus on cultivating inner strength and emotional stability to adapt to difficult situations and to build resiliency. Among the four presenters at this 2.5-hour workshop are Paul Massera and Abdul Khan, both from the California Department of Water Resources. The workshop runs from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is free.
