Work for the Delta National Heritage Area!
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area, operated by the Delta Protection Commission, has two job openings.
Full-time Senior Environmental Planner: Work entails developing maps and GIS databases, stakeholder outreach, and developing/managing partnership relationships with other agencies, nonprofits, organizations, and individuals. Pay range is $8,425-$10,469/month. Download the duty statement here (PDF).

Half-time Information Officer: The person in this half-time, limited-term (one year) position will serve as the communications and tourism marketing lead for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area. Pay range is $2,928-$3,664/month.

Delta Plan Five-Year Review Available
The Delta Stewardship Council has released its five-year review of the Delta Plan.
The review has four objectives:
1. Evaluate progress implementing the Delta Plan.
2. Identify where progress has been made.
3. Identify where progress is needed.
4. Focus and prioritize the Council’s near-term Delta Plan implementation efforts.

Vegetation Removal on Lower San Joaquin
The Army Corps of Engineers will begin work as soon as Oct. 17 to remove vegetation along the Lower San Joaquin River, along Tenmile Slough at river mile 30.
The vegetation removal's purpose is to prepare for levee construction work next spring.
Crews will work between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for about two weeks.
Delta Heritage Forum: Nov. 15
We still have seats available at the Delta Heritage Forum, a free, full-day annual event that celebrates Delta stories, nurtures collaboration, and inspires new thinking and initiatives in the Delta heritage community.
The event will be held Nov. 15 at the Antioch Historical Society Museum. Attendance is free, but seating is limited.

Nominate a Delta Leader (Deadline: Nov. 22)
Nominations and applications are being accepted for the 2025 Delta Leadership Program. The deadline is Nov. 22.
The program, operated by the Delta Protection Commission and Delta Leadership Foundation, consists of a series of intensive seminars held January through April. Participants also complete team projects to benefit the Delta.
The program targets potential or emerging leaders in the Delta from all walks of life – agriculture, law enforcement, local government, non-profit organizations, local business, and the tourism and hospitality sectors, among others.

BRIDGE WORK
Marine Traffic Bridge Closures in SJ County
San Joaquin County movable-span bridges will be temporarily closed to marine traffic through Jan. 31. The bridges will be open to vehicles, but may be reduced to one lane of travel at times.
Affected bridges are the Eight Mile Road Bridge at Honker Cut Canal, the Bacon Island Road Bridge at Middle River, and the Tracy Boulevard Bridge at the Grant Line Canal.
Rio Vista Bridge
A repaving project on the Rio Vista Bridge (Helen Madere Memorial Bridge) on State Route 12 just east of Rio Vista will cause multiple 55-hour weekend bridge closures:
- 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21
- 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4
- 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18 (tentative)

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Oct. 10-13 in Rio Vista: Bass Derby & Festival - music, food, vendors, kids' activities, car show, rummage sale, and more. Events kick off 6 p.m. Oct. 10 and run all day for each of the following three days.
Oct. 11/19 in Brentwood: Oct. 11 is the registration deadline for the "Take a Hike" hike, lunch and film on Oct. 19. Hike starts at 9 a.m. at Marsh Creek State Historic Park, 21767 Marsh Creek Road.
Oct. 12:
In Antioch: Free Kids Fishing Derby (up to age 12) - tackle, rods, reels, and a hot dog lunch provided. 9 a.m.-noon, but registration begins at 8:30 a.m., at Compy's Pier at the foot of H Street.
In Lodi: San Joaquin County Historical Museum Tractor Fest - hands-on tractor show, tractor parade, kids' activities, food trucks. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the museum, 11793 Micke Grove Road.
In Stockton: FAHM Fest 24 - food, music, history, art, and culture in recognition of Filipino American History Month.
In Stockton: Asian Pacific American Public Affairs Association San Joaquin and Delta Chapters Meet & Greet Candidate Forum - candidates for Congress, state Senate and Assembly, county supervisor, city and school district positions. 2-5 p.m. at the American Legion Karl Ross Post 16, 2020 Plymouth Road.
Oct. 13 in Clarksburg: 1883 School Spirit - a benefit for the 1883 Clarksburg Schoolhouse. 3-5 p.m. at 36533 Netherlands Road.
Oct. 15 in Walnut Grove: Historic Show & Tell - bring and talk about your historic treasures at the Sacramento River Delta Historical Society general meeting. Oct. 19:
In Brentwood: Digs & Rigs - children of all ages can explore vehicles of all types! Food trucks will be on hand. Sponsored by the Brentwood Rotary Club and Los Medanos College. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Los Medanos Brentwood Campus, 1351 Pioneer Square.
In Martinez: Contra Costa County Historical Society Open House - 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 724 Escobar St. Admission is free, but registration is required.
Oct. 26 in Rio Vista: Fall Festival. 3-7 p.m. More information will be posted later on website.
Nov. 1-3 in Lodi: Sandhill Crane Festival - crane tours, presentations, workshops, art show, youth activities, merchandise. Festival activities are at Hutchins Street Square Community Center, 125 S. Hutchins St.

Danger advisories: Contra Loma Reservoir, Discovery Bay - Willow Lake - Town Dock, and Discovery Bay Yacht Club Marina. Advice: STAY OUT OF THE WATER. Do not touch scum in the water or shore. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
Warning advisories: Discovery Bay - Lighthouse Place and Cypress Channel, Discovery Bay - Reef Court and Reef Cove/Cypress Channel. Advice: NO SWIMMING. Stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
Caution advisories (stay away from algae and scum in the water): Big Break Regional Shoreline Boat Launch (downgraded from Danger), Discovery Bay - Kellogg Creek Bridge at Newport Drive, Discovery Bay - Seal Way near gas station and Cypress Channel. Advice: NO SWIMMING. Stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
Visual observation advisories: Brookside Lake near Pine Lake Circle in Stockton, West Canal at Clifton Court Intake, Grant Line Canal near Old River, Old River downstream of the ORT Barrier. Advice: Stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep Children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
