Updated versions released for State Water Project bulletin series
DWR has released the latest editions in a series of reports that cover the work of the State Water Project (SWP). Bulletin 132 provides information on annual water deliveries, facilities maintenance, financial analysis, water quality monitoring, recreational opportunities, power resources, and other activities related to the SWP. The two new editions cover the work done in 2019 and 2020. Each report also has SWP cost information for the following calendar year.

Boat safety education grants available to organizations
Grant applications are being accepted by the California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways from organizations that teach boating safety to the public. The Aquatic Center Education Program is making a total of $1.4 million in grants available to local public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and colleges in California. The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 25.
Tribal and environmental justice addressed in new blog
The Delta Stewardship Council is sharing a new blog that coincides with the release of the public review draft of a Tribal and environmental justice issue paper. This paper focuses on tribal affairs and environmental justice within the boundaries of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the Suisun Marsh. The blog discusses the motivation for creating the paper and the next steps in its development.
Comments sought for changes to desalination provisions
A public scoping meeting on the proposed amendments to the desalination provisions of the California Water Quality Control Plan for Ocean Waters will be held Monday, Oct. 28, in Sacramento. Details on the meeting, the proposed amendments, and how to submit public comments are available in a State Water Resources Control Board notice. A Spanish version of the notice is available.
Stormwater conference to be held in Sacramento
An opportunity to interact with the leading members of the stormwater community will be available during the annual California Stormwater Quality Association conference in Sacramento on Oct. 21–23. There will be training and discussions addressing a wide range of challenges and opportunities facing stormwater professionals in California. This year’s conference theme is, “Inspiring Solutions Together.”

Water Seminar Series to look at weather forecasting
A look at how DWR is changing the way it forecasts weather and hydrologic conditions will be the next topic for the Water Seminar Series at Sacramento State. A DWR representative will discuss snow survey procedures, the activities of the Aerial Remote Sensing of Snow Program, and the roadmap for developing a climate-resilient forecasting framework. The webinar will be Friday, Oct. 18.
Water data consortium hosting public town hall
A virtual public town hall will be hosted by the California Water Data Consortium on Wednesday, Oct. 23. There will be program updates on the consortium’s various initiatives. The agenda includes introducing initial ideas for a new strategic plan. Attendees will have the opportunity to add their thoughts and help shape the future direction of the Consortium.

Watershed resilience pilot projects receive funding awards
California Water Plan Update 2023 makes a point to emphasize the importance of building watershed-based solutions, climate resilience, and equity statewide by collaborating with local partners. As part of that effort, DWR, through its Water Resilience Program, has awarded $2 million to each of five pilot projects that will test and apply watershed resilience approaches in various regions of California. The results will be used to establish the foundation for future resilience efforts.
