Come Work for the DPC!
The Delta Protection Commission is hiring a Senior Environmental Planner. This is a full-time position eligible for remote work three days a week.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with the Land Use and Resource Management Plan.
- Planning and implementation of Community Action Plans for Legacy Communities, including tourism enhancement and other regional economic development and sustainability projects.
- Agency GIS work (GIS experience is required).
Delta Farms, Communities Among Farm-to-School Grant Recipients
California announced $1.65 million in grants last week for its farm to school initiative.
Delta grant recipients included:
West Sacramento Home Run: $200,000 to support 4-12 Early Childcare Education sites by coordinating procurement of local produce boxes and coaching sites to create on-site gardens to teach children about growing food and eating healthy produce. Project will partner with local farms and West Sacramento Waste Reduction team to offer training to staff and children on composting, recycling and local farm field trips.
Spork Food Hub, which serves Sacramento and Yolo counties, among others: $350,000 to increase procurement from socially disadvantaged farmers using climate smart practices to enhance school meals with high-quality, nutrient-dense produce in partnership with farm incubator programs and school districts.
Ujamaa Farmer Collective, based in West Sacramento: $349,781 to increase production capacity to provide healthy foods to existing and new farm-to-school partnerships in underserved areas of Sacramento and Yolo. This project will prioritize the cultivation of culturally relevant crops, ensuring students are introduced to new and heritage foods reflective of their backgrounds, as well as provide hands-on education, agritourism, and training opportunities at the 22-acre collective farmland and food hub.
Comments Sought: Tribal and Environmental Justice Issues in the Delta
The Delta Stewardship Council released a public review draft (PDF) of Tribal and Environmental Justice Issues in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta: History and Current Perspectives.
The draft presents the Council's understanding of tribal and environmental justice issues in and around the Delta and recommends actions to better address those issues within the scope of the Council's mission, authority, and influence.
The deadline to comment is 5 p.m. Nov. 4.
Registration Is Open for Delta Heritage Forum
Registration is now open for the Delta Heritage Forum, a free, full-day annual event that celebrates Delta stories, nurtures collaboration, and inspires new thinking and initiatives in the Delta heritage community.
The event will be held Nov. 15 at the Antioch Historical Society Museum. Attendance is free, but seating is limited.
The theme of this year’s forum is “Creating Community Through Heritage.”
The Forum is organized by the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta National Heritage Area. The NHA is coordinated by the Delta Protection Commission.

Cross Channel Boater Access Restrictions: Dates Updated
Boater access through the Delta Cross Channel will be restricted through Sept. 13.
The Bureau of Reclamation is conducting a geotechnical investigation there as part of the Delta Cross Channel Gate Improvements Project. It is designed to improve operational flexibility, reliability, and safety of the gate facility.

Sept. 14 in Rio Vista: Airport Day - vintage planes and hot rods, pancake breakfast, food trucks, and vendors. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rio Vista Airport.
Sept. 15 in Clarksburg: Wines of Clarksburg and Art Auction - gourmet food samplings, local wines from over a dozen wineries, live music, silent auction, and a fine art auction featuring Sacramento and Delta artists. 1-5 p.m. at Heringer Ranch, 37375 Netherlands Road.
Sept. 18 in Isleton: Delta Champion Awards - wine and appetizers, meal, and award presentation. 5-8 p.m. at Delta Diamond, 15175 CA-160.

Sherman Island: Delta Waterway Cleanup - the Delta Conservancy is coordinating a cleanup on Sherman Island in coordination with the Rio Vista Windsurfing Association and Sherman Island Kiteboarding Organization. Registration is encouraged. 9 a.m.-noon.
Rio Vista: Saturday Street Faire - music, art, jewelry, crafts, food and fun. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in downtown Rio Vista.
Locke: Locke Street Faire and Open Studios - ribbon cutting ceremony 10:30-11 a.m. at Locke Boarding House Museum, 13916 Main St.; popup exhibition 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at 1265 Main St.; opening reception for Traces of our Roots 6-8 p.m. at 1265 Main St.
Sept. 28 in Clarksburg: Second Annual Portuguese Festival - food trucks, wine tasting, cultural exhibits, and more. Noon-5 p.m. at the I.D.E.S. Portuguese Hall, 54113 S. River Road.
Harmful Algal Blooms Report
Harmful algal bloom danger advisories remain at the Big Break Regional Shoreline boat launch and Contra Loma Reservoir. Advisories at Discovery Bay have not been updated.
Caution advisories remain at the Lake Washington Sailing Club in West Sacramento, on the San Joaquin River at Windmill Cove, and on the Clifton Forebay inlet. There are new cautions on Victoria Canal near Union Point and at Bethany Reservoir downstream of the Banks Pumping Plant.
The advice: Stay out of the water. Keep pets out of the water, and do not let them eat scum from the shore. Do not eat shellfish from the water body.
