Delta Waterway Cleanups

The 2024 Delta Waterway Cleanup is Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy is coordinating a cleanup on Sherman Island in coordination with the Rio Vista Windsurfing Association and Sherman Island Kiteboarding Organization.
Registration is encouraged for the Sherman Island cleanup. This link includes information about other cleanup opportunities as well.
Delta Cross Channel Geotechnical Investigation
The Bureau of Reclamation will be conducting a geotechnical investigation at the Delta Cross Channel as part of the Delta Cross Channel Gate Improvements Project.
The investigation is being performed to support project design of modifications at the site that will improve operational flexibility, reliability, and safety of the gate facility.
Investigation activities will occur mid-August through mid-September. Disruptions to recreation access at the site will likely occur during this period, including boater access restrictions during weekdays/weeknights Sept. 3-13.
Delta Champions Named
The Delta Leadership Foundation announced the 2024 winners of its Delta Champion Awards:
Russell van Loben Sels, Delta Preserver – for achievement in historical or environmental preservation.
The Pear Fair, Delta Promoter – for achievement in tourism, agriculture, education, commerce, and/or the arts.
Rio Vista Food Pantry, Delta Improver – for achievement in Delta health, community, and/or quality of life.
Dutra Family, Delta Legacy Family – for a family that has contributed to the Delta for at least 100 years through multi-generational professional and volunteer activities that have enhanced the quality of life of the region.
Gilbert Labrie, Delta Lifetime Achievement – for lifetime achievement in preservation, protection and promotion of the Delta.
The awards will be presented at a Sept. 18 dinner at Delta Diamond Farm in Isleton. Purchase tickets here.

Harmful Algal Blooms Report: New Danger Advisory in West Sacramento, More Advisories Appear
A harmful algal bloom danger advisory has been added at the Lake Washington Sailing Club in West Sacramento.
Danger advisories remain at the Big Break Regional Shoreline boat launch, Contra Loma Reservoir, and at two sites in Discovery Bay, where there is also a warning and numerous caution advisories.
There is a caution on the San Joaquin River at Windmill Cove, and there are visual observations near Clifton Forebay.
The advice: Stay out of the water. Keep pets out of the water, and do not let them eat scum from the shore. Do not eat shellfish from the reservoir.
