Overview of DWR grant programs on water commission agenda
This month’s meeting of the California Water Commission will include an overview of the grant programs funded by DWR’s Division of Regional Assistance. For more than 20 years, DWR has been providing grants to California communities to support integrated watershed management activities. The CWC meeting will be Wednesday, July 17, in Sacramento. Comments being accepted on proposed pesticide regulations
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation is taking public comments on modifications to its proposed regulation on pesticide application notification. Once in effect, the regulation will support a system to provide advance information on the planned applications of restricted material pesticides used in agriculture. There will be three public hearings on the proposed modifications: July 12, in Turlock; July 15, online; and July 23, in Shafter (Kern County). The public comment period will run through Thursday, Aug. 1

Energy commission looking for new hub administrator
The California Energy Commission has released a solicitation to fund an administrator who will establish the Industrial, Agricultural, and Water Research and Deployment Hub. The intent of the hub concept is to allow the administrator to manage research projects based on research results, new policies, and evolving research needs. A pre-application workshop for potential applicants will be held Tuesday, July 23.
Regional leaders reception being hosted by MCWRA
A reception of regional leaders will be hosted by the Mountain Counties Water Resources Association (MCWRA) on Thursday, Aug. 8, in Placerville. The MCWRA leadership, El Dorado Irrigation District directors, and local elected officials will be available for networking opportunities. Registration is required.

The Splash is a weekly feature spotlighting topics from California Water Plan Update 2023.
California Water Plan Update 2023’s Roadmap to Resilience Objective 6 is: Support and Increase Flexibility of Regulatory Systems. To meet the challenges of changing hydrology, there is a need to fully support regulatory programs to ensure that they are flexible and adaptive. The recommendations are:
- Support Regulatory Processes with Robust and Consistent Data for Decision-Making.
- Increase Efficiency and Efficacy of Regulatory Systems to Meet Needs of a Changing Climate.
- Explore Water Right Process and Procedures for Adapting to Changing Climate.
From these recommendations there are six actions to implement, including enabling DWR to acquire or manage water rights to facilitate sustainability and resiliency, and modernizing water rights data to facilitate adaptive and real-time decisions.
