Water commission seeking public input through online survey
The California Water Commission is looking for input on its public outreach and engagement efforts. The commission has set up an online survey to gather opinions and ideas from interested parties. For nearly 75 years, the commission has explored water management issues and formulated recommendations on ways to improve water policy, planning, and management in California.
Floodplain Management Association heading to Nevada for conference
This year’s annual conference for the Floodplain Management Association will be in Henderson, Nevada. Running Sept. 3–6, the theme of the conference is “Flood Risk — Know Your Odds.” The program will include workshops, technical sessions and panel discussions. For certified floodplain managers, there will be continuing education credits for this event. Early registration rates are available through Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Video demonstrations show path to accessing air and water data
A new online video shows how it is easier than ever to access data from the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). The video includes demonstrations on the best ways to access the service’s air and water database. The NRCS provides a wide variety of data that are available to developers and the general public.
San Luis Obispo County is next spot for Forest Stewardship Workshop
The next Forest Stewardship Workshop being offered by University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources will run from Aug. 27 through Oct. 22. The workshop will help landowners develop plans to improve and protect their forest lands in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner. While most of the workshop will be done online, there will be an in-person session on Sept. 21, in San Luis Obispo County.
CWEMF opens registration for September's annual meeting
Registration is open for the California Water and Environmental Modeling Forum’s (CWEMF’s) annual meeting. It will be Sept. 23–25, in Folsom. The first day will include a session celebrating CWEMF’s 30th anniversary.

California Water Plan Update 2023’s Roadmap to Resilience Objective 4 is: Advance Equitable Outcomes in Water Management.
Recognizing that current inequities exist in California’s institutional systems and that resilience for California must include resilience for all, the recommendations are:
- Create Opportunities for Meaningful Outreach and Engagement.
- Build Community Capacity and Resilience.
- Improve Access to and Outcomes of State Resources.
Among these recommendations are 16 actions to implement. They include establishing an environmental justice and equity advisory group, supporting targeted resources to support frontline community members, and evaluating barriers to State financial assistance.
