Speakers from CalTrout and Sustainable Conservation will explain how environmentally beneficial restoration projects create a healthier, more resilient future for Californians. This will be Sustainable Conservation’s final webinar in its Climate Resilience Through Regeneration series.
Report looks at the link between cover crops and SGMA
A coalition of organizations and government agencies has released a report examining the role of cover crops in the era of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Cover crops are non-income generating crops that protect and improve the soil between regular crop production or between rows of perennial tree and vine crops. The report offers an overview of water impacts, policy implications, and recommendations for California’s water managers. A separate executive summary of the report is also available.

Session on North Coast wildfire resilience set for June 13
On Thursday, June 13, the North Coast Resource Partnership will host a listening and learning session on wildfire resilience. The session will include representatives from Tribes, counties, the U.S. Forest Service, and CAL FIRE. This in-person meeting will be in the Eureka area. Location and registration details are being developed.
Comments being accepted for draft municipal stormwater permit policy
The State Water Resources Control Board is accepting public comments on the revised draft Water Quality Control Policy for Standardized Cost Reporting in Municipal Stormwater Permits. If adopted, the policy would require permittees to use a list of standardized cost categories to track their municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit implementation costs. It would also require annual reporting of expenditures for implementing MS4 permits. The comment deadline is noon on Tuesday, June 25.
Two-day Colorado River conference to be held next month
Registration is open for the 2024 Conference on the Colorado River. It will be in Boulder, Colorado on June 6 and 7. The focus will be on ideas for stabilizing the river system through 2026 and developing long-term vision and strategies for managing it after that.

The Splash is a weekly feature spotlighting topics from California Water Plan Update 2023.
To achieve the needed resilience described throughout California Water Plan Update 2023, a roadmap of seven objectives is presented:
- Support watershed resilience planning and implementation.
- Improve resilience of State, federal, and regional “backbone” built water infrastructure.
- Improve resilience of “backbone” natural infrastructure.
- Advance equitable outcomes in water management.
- Support and learn from Tribal water and resource management practices.
- Increase support for regulatory programs and enhance regulatory flexibility to address a changing climate.
- Provide guidance and support continued resources for implementing actions toward water resilience.
Each objective contains multiple recommendations and actions to achieve the listed objectives.
