Selecting watersheds to evaluate supply and demand tools
The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Rights will be selecting watersheds to evaluate water supply and demand tools that are under development. The tools provide water supply models, water use data, and allocate water based on water right priorities. There will be three public meetings to discuss the selection of the watersheds: Eureka (May 14), Salinas (May 21), and Sacramento (June 3). Only the Sacramento meeting will include a virtual option.

California’s large size means there are variety of landscapes throughout the state. For climate resilience plans and actions to be successful, they need to happen at a watershed (or regional) scale. California Water Plan Update 2023 aims to support and create programs that improve climate vulnerability in various watersheds.
This chapter is being put into action right away with the launch of the Watershed Resilience Program. DWR has awarded $10 million to $15 million to several projects throughout the state that support watershed-based solutions, climate resilience, and equity.
