DWR releases groundwater well permitting report
The various approaches being used to comply with California’s well-permitting requirements are summarized in a new report from DWR. The report looks at ways well-permitting agencies and groundwater sustainability agencies are meeting executive order requirements for lessening the effects of intense drought conditions. There is also information on perspectives shared by some small communities, examples of local agency compliance measures, and observations of groundwater conditions that occurred during the time the actions were taken.

Managed aquifer recharge symposium to be held in Tucson
The Biennial Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) will be held April 3–6, in Tucson. It will feature presentations by leading MAR experts including technical specialists, regulators, and managers. The program will begin with panel sessions on surface recharge technologies and injection wells.
Water loss and leak detection webinar set for March 21
DWR’s monthly water loss and leak detection webinar will be Thursday, March 21. It will feature a presentation on water loss control program that the city of Wilson, Tennessee has used since 1988. It includes various elements to reduce non-revenue water and a cost-effective way to maintain leakage at the technical minimum.
Equity and resilience summit will focus on DACTI program
This month’s Summit for Equity and Resilience in Water will focus on lessons learned for the Disadvantaged Community and Tribal involvement (DACTI) program. The summit will run March 26–27 at the Los Angeles County Public Works Headquarters in Alhambra. The registration page offers in-person and online attendance.
Registration is open for annual Water 101 workshop
The Water Education Foundation’s annual Water 101 workshop is coming up on Friday, April 5, in Sacramento. It will provide details on the legal aspects, history, geography, and politics surrounding water in California. The workshop includes an optional groundwater tour on April 4, which will cover farms and facilities in the Sacramento region that use groundwater, examine a subsidence measuring station, and provide the latest updates on the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.

Two-month forest stewardship workshop begins next week
The next UC Agriculture and Natural Resources' forest stewardship workshop will begin Wednesday, March 20. The workshop series will help landowners develop plans to improve and protect their forest lands in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner. The online course will run through Wednesday, May 15, with an in-person session in Fresno County on Saturday, April 6.
