Delta Mourns Gerry Goodie
The Delta is mourning the passing of community leader Gerry Goodie, who died on Feb. 29.
Goodie was co-owner of the popular Wimpy’s Marina Restaurant and Bar, a 2023 alum of the Delta Leadership Program, and a recent addition to the Delta Protection Advisory Committee.
"Gerry was a true Delta leader," said Delta Protection Commission Executive Director Bruce Blodgett. "We were deeply saddened to hear of this loss to our community, and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family."
Commission Approves National Heritage Area Management Plan
The Delta Protection Commission approved the management plan for the Delta National Heritage Area on March 7. It will be submitted to the Department of Interior for review and approval today.
“There’s no place in the world like the Delta, with its unique geology, ecology, and history,” said Commission Chair Diane Burgis.
“The Management Plan is our roadmap for how we talk about our history and how different agencies and community groups throughout the Delta’s five counties can work together to celebrate our shared heritage."

Steven Hutchason appointed to DPAC
The Delta Protection Commission on March 7 appointed Steven Hutchason to the Delta Protection Advisory Committee.
Hutchason is the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Wilton Rancheria, a tribe whose indigenous territory encompasses Sacramento County.
He will serve as DPAC's first official tribal representative, filling a seat created by the Commission last fall.
Isleton Celebrates Asian New Year
Isleton's Asian New Year celebration on March 2 delighted onlookers. It also marked the groundbreaking for the city's Asian American Heritage Park and the grand opening of the "Revisiting Isleton's Forgotten Nihonmachi" exhibit at the Isleton Museum. The event was sponsored in part by the Delta Protection Commission.
Applications Open for Six Seats on Delta Committee
April 12 is the deadline to apply for six seats on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee. The seats represent Delta Business, Delta Agriculture, Delta Recreation, Delta Cultural Preservation, State Agency, and Delta General Public.
The committee, which meets in the evening every other month at locations in the Delta, advises the Delta Protection Commission (DPC) on diverse interests in the Delta.

DPC on Twin Cities Composting Facility: Incompatible with State Law, Delta Protections
The Delta Protection Commission has concluded that a proposed composting facility at Twin Cities Road and I-5 is incompatible with state law and the DPC's mandate to protect the Primary Zone of the Delta.
In its letter about the project to the Sacramento County Planning Department, the DPC cites loss of agricultural land and reduction of habitat for a threatened species (Swainson's hawk).
The comment letter was submitted under the Commission's statutory authority to enforce its Land Use and Resource Management Plan.
Delta Leadership Program: A Place for Reflection
Modern life doesn't afford a lot of opportunity for thoughtful discussion and deep reflection. But that's exactly what goes on in the Delta Leadership Program.
A joint effort of the Delta Leadership Foundation and Delta Protection Commission, this program provides sustained leadership development in the Delta with a series of seminars each year for the Delta's up-and-coming leaders.
On March 1, the Class of 2024 met at the Rio Vista Youth and Community Hall for a day of learning and probing conversations.
The Next Leg of the Delta Trail: West Sac to Clarksburg
The Great California Delta Trail may grow its network of trails with a new segment from West Sacramento to Clarksburg.
The segment would run along 6.4 miles of the Clarksburg Branch Line of the Sacramento Northern Railroad.
The addition would create a safe, healthy way for pedestrians and cyclists to reach Clarksburg, a historic Delta community with popular wine-tasting venues. It could also help improve broadband access in the Delta by including conduit for fiberoptic cable.
The Delta Protection Commission coordinates planning and implementation of the Delta Trail with local agencies.
