The Delta NHA Sign is BACK!
The Delta Protection Commission's brand new Welcome-to-the-Delta sign was up on Jefferson Boulevard near West Sacramento for only a few weeks last summer before it was destroyed in a non-injury car accident.
Now, at long last, its replacement is up, and this time sitting a little farther from the curve where Jefferson meets the levee, so it's less likely to get hit again.
It's great news for people who love these signs. But why are they so popular in the first place? The reason is really quite simple: The signs say, "This place matters."

A collection of home movies from the 1950s to the 1970s shot by the Bohulano family in Stockton was one of 25 films added to the Library of Congress's National Film Registry last week. It was chosen from 6,875 titles submitted for consideration, and it joins the registry alongside films including Apollo 13, Fame, Home Alone, Terminator 2, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and 12 Years a Slave.
The collection is a snapshot of Filipino family life in Stockton, as well as an exploration of the experience of Filipino immigrants, who came to the Delta in substantial numbers a century ago to work in agriculture, particularly harvesting asparagus.
Deadline Extended: Tribal Opening on Delta Protection Advisory Committee
The Delta Protection Commission has extended the deadline to apply for a tribal-representative seat on the Delta Protection Advisory Committee.
The Commission in September voted to expand DPAC, adding seats for tribal representative and an additional general-public representative.
The committee, which meets in the evening every other month at locations in the Delta, advises the Commission on diverse interests in the Delta. The new members, to be appointed as early as January, will serve terms that expire in 2027.
The application deadline for the tribal-representative seat will remain open until the position is filled.
