Workshop for draft urban stormwater RMS set for next week
On Wednesday, Dec. 20, the California Water Plan team will host a virtual workshop to get public input on the draft Urban Stormwater Runoff Capture and Management Resource Management Strategy (RMS) for California Water Plan Update 2023.The workshop will give local agencies, Tribes, non-governmental organizations, and the public an opportunity to review and provide comment on the content in the draft strategy. An agenda and draft for review will be sent to those who complete the registration form.

$35.6 million recommended for local park projects in California
California State Parks is recommending a total of $35.6 million in federal funding for 16 local park projects across the state. The funding comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The grants can be used for land acquisition and development of recreational facilities. Project information is being forwarded to the National Park Service for review and final federal funding approval.

SGC to consider grant awards for two programs
Approval of grant awards for two programs is on the agenda of the Strategic Growth Council’s (SGC's) Dec. 14 meeting. The council will consider staff recommendations for the awards under the Transformative Climate Communities and the Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation programs. There will also be a presentation for the annual update of the SGC Racial Equity Action Plan. The meeting will be in Sacramento. Looking for interest in the inaugural Climate Resilience Nexus
The inaugural Climate Resilience Nexus will be hosted by the Governor's Office of Planning and Research on Friday, Jan. 12, in Riverside. The agenda will include discussion on the development of California's climate resilience agenda. There will also be adaptations success stories from communities that have navigated climate change challenges. Everyone interested in attending is asked to complete an expression of interest form.
New edition of Klamath River Basin guide available for purchase
The history of tribal, agricultural, and environmental relationships is included in the latest edition of the Layperson’s Guide to the Klamath River Basin. This edition, produced by the Water Education Foundation, includes details on an agreement to remove four hydropower dams that were impeding salmon passage to spawning habitat in California and Oregon. Copies of the guide are $18.

Policy brief outlines actions for the next wet year in California
The Public Policy Institute of California has released a policy brief that examines how California’s water sector managed the unusually wet conditions of Water Year 2023, The brief also outlines priorities for future action. Priorities for California’s Water concludes that while the state has made great strides in planning and preparing for a drier, hotter future, equal emphasis is needed on improving management during wet years.
