Mt. Diablo Pearl Harbor Day Beacon Lighting
Mount Diablo is the Delta's most prominent navigational landmark, and on Thursday night, it will shine brightly as the beacon on its summit is lit in honor of Pearl Harbor Day.
The beacon was first lit by Charles Lindbergh in 1928, but it went dark after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was relit on Pearl Harbor Day in 1964, and the observance has continued since then.
A beacon-lighting ceremony will be held at the California State University, East Bay, Concord Campus, 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road. Parking is free. There will be a USS Arizona reception and exhibit at 3 p.m., and a ceremony starting at 3:45 p.m. The beacon will be lit at 5 p.m.
