State offers progress reports on efforts to bolster water supplies
Two progress reports released this month highlight State actions being taken to bolster California’s water supplies. A progress report on the 2022 California’s Water Supply Strategy, details key actions taken by State agencies to improve water storage, recycling, desalination, and conservation. A second progress report covers work that has been done addressing the primary approaches in the Water Resilience Portfolio. Climate Smart Agricultural Program progress report released
The California Department of Food and Agriculture and the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources have released a progress report on the Climate Smart Agricultural Program. Since 2019, the program has provided direct technical assistance to more than 1,300 farmers and ranchers in 25 counties. The help provided includes assistance on conservation management practices that build soil health, reduce water use, and improve manure management.
Update on Climate Innovation Program set for next week
A workshop on the development of the Climate Innovation Program will be hosted by the California Energy Commission on Thursday, Nov. 2. The program is designed to support development of clean energy and climate change technology innovations. It will provide as much as $500 million for projects that meet goals, such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

Strategic Growth Council releases tomorrow's meeting agenda
The next meeting of the Strategic Growth Council will be tomorrow, Oct. 26, in San Diego. A virtual attendance option is available. Councilmembers will consider approving the Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program Grant Guidelines, which helps California Native American Tribes advance their climate-related work. Also on the agenda is a resolution to support energy-efficient factory-built housing to meet the State’s housing, climate, and equity goals.
Blog series focuses on expediting permitting for habitat projects
Sustainable Conservation has started a new blog series focussing on California habitat restoration projects that benefit from accelerated permitting. Sustainable Conservation is working with State and federal agencies to expedite permits for projects throughout California. The latest blog entry is the Kopta Slough Multi-Benefit Project, a floodplain and riverbank habitat restoration project along the Sacramento River in Tehama County.
Delta presentation up next in Secretary Speaker Series
The California Natural Resources Agency Secretary Speaker Series continues Tuesday, Oct. 31, with a presentation on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. There will be information about the ongoing work to protect the region from climate extremes, restore ecosystems, and build economic and environmental sustainability.

November opens with two updates on Delta restoration projects
Two meetings next week will provide updates on work being done in the Delta. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the State Water Contractors and DWR will host a science symposium on the latest tidal wetland restoration research in the Delta and Suisun Marsh. Then on Nov. 2, a Delta Restoration Forum open house will be held in Walnut Grove.
