Imagine a Day Without Water events set for tomorrow
Thursday, Oct. 19, is the annual Imagine a Day Without Water. The events include a webinar hosted by Fresno State’s California Water Institute. On the agenda is a presentation for a feasibility study on how groundwater recharge can benefit disadvantaged communities.
Semi-annual groundwater conditions report released by DWR
DWR has released the new California’s Groundwater Conditions: Semi-Annual Update. The report provides a look at groundwater conditions during the last year. It includes data received by DWR as of August 31. This semi-annual report provides an update on the effects of storms, flooding, and managed aquifer recharge during Water Year 2023. More information will be available this spring when groundwater sustainability agencies submit reports documenting local groundwater conditions.
Webinar will update efforts to improve flood control project
Details on major improvements being made to the Sacramento River Flood Control Project will be presented this Friday, Oct. 20, in Sacramento. Since its construction in the 1950s, the project has experienced flows in excess of the designed capacity. Representatives from DWR and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will share details about their efforts to improve the project. This webinar is part of the Water Seminar Series at Sacramento State.
Spotlighting the RCIS Program during webinar next week
An overview of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW's) Regional Conservation Investment Strategies (RCIS) Program will be presented during webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The voluntary program encourages conservation assessments and planning at a landscape level. An RCIS provides guidance for conservation and mitigation projects that provide ecological benefits.

Wildlife connectivity guidelines to be released for comment
In another element related to the RCIS Program, CDFW will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24, to discuss the draft Wildlife Connectivity Advance Mitigation Guidelines. The guidelines will be available for public comment after they are posted on the Wildlife Connectivity Mitigation website.
Data collaborative offering webinar on landscape water budgets
The crucial data needed for calculating accurate landscape water budgets will be discussed at this month’s California Data Collaborative online workshop. The webinar will be Thursday, Oct. 26. It will cover different data sources, how the different sources can be used to calculate water budgets, and best practices.
