Future scenarios report and data explorer released by DWR
A future scenarios report, that is a supporting document for California Water Plan Update 2023, has been released by DWR. From Climate Traces to Climate Insights: Future Scenarios Analysis for the California Central Valley uses a decision-scaling approach to quantify potential climate-related vulnerability and risks based on six aspects of water management. Data used for the report are available on the Future Scenarios Interactive Data Explorer.
Flood-MAR forum set for November, hub website launched
A two-day forum on the recent lessons and success stories of flood-managed aquifer recharge (Flood-MAR) will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Sacramento. Presentations will cover the ways Flood-MAR implementation benefits communities, ecosystems, and agriculture. Early bird registration rates will be available through Monday, Oct. 16. The forum follows the launching of an updated Flood-MAR Hub website that includes new resources.

Annual water supply and demand report submitted by DWR
DWR has submitted its 2023 Annual Water Supply and Demand Assessment Summary Report to the State Water Resources Control Board. The report summarizes urban water suppliers’ shortage reports submitted to DWR. All submitted reports indicate there will be adequate supplies and local conservation strategies if the coming year is a dry one.
Water commission getting series of updates at next meeting
A series of updates is on the agenda for the next California Water Commission meeting. The meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Sacramento. Commissioners will receive a report on the Water Storage Investment Program, including an update on the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project. There will also be a presentation on construction projects and ongoing operations related to the State Water Project.
Fall webinar series begins next week with groundwater recharge
The idea of using a holistic approach to water resilience will be the theme of Sustainable Conservation’s fall webinar series. The first installment of the series will be Tuesday, Oct. 17. It will include a panel of growers, scientists, and government representatives discussing groundwater recharge.
OPR asking for input on updating State General Plan Guidelines
A listening session on proposed State General Plan Guidelines will be hosted by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) on Monday, Oct. 16. The guidelines provide information for the development of general plans for California cities and counties. Consultants will be hired to create updated guidelines by 2026. The listening session is one way to collect input on defining the consultant team’s scope of work.

Conservancy approves $84 million in funding for coastal projects
The State Coastal Conservancy has authorized $84 million in funding for coastal projects that will restore lands, improve resilience to climate change, and improve public access. The awards cover 31 projects. The grants range from $82,000 to design and establish a new trail in Mendocino County, to more than $31 million for the Southern Los Cerritos Wetlands Restoration Project.
