Funding available to help counties with resilience plans
Financial and technical assistance are available to help counties establish water shortage task forces and drought resilience plans. A task force and resilience plan are required by each county to improve water shortage preparedness for small water systems and domestic wells. Through DWR’s County Drought Resilience Planning Assistance Program, counties can request up to $125,000 in financial assistance or direct technical assistance to support their planning efforts.
AEM survey data released for Northern Sacramento Valley
New data collected during airborne electromagnetic (AEM) surveys has been released by DWR. The information comes from AEM surveys conducted in the Northern Sacramento Valley and the Redding area. The data can help in defining groundwater flow pathways and support identification of potential groundwater recharge sites. The results of all AEM surveys are available on the California Natural Resources Agency Open Data portal.
Interconnected surface water fact sheet released by DWR
A plan for providing guidance on the technical aspects of interconnected surface water (ISW) has been released in a new fact sheet from DWR. The first phase will include topic papers discussing the depletion of ISW because of pumping. The second phase will focus on approaches to establish sustainable management criteria based on local conditions. The final version of that report is expected to be released next summer.
Water adaptation atlas available for five western states
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has put together a searchable atlas that focuses on efforts to deal with water scarcity and drought. The Water Adaptation Techniques Atlas contains more than 180 case studies from Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah. The studies cover a variety of water topics, including irrigation methods.
Funding available for non-lethal beaver deterrent projects
As much as $2 million in grants is being made available for non-lethal beaver damage deterrent projects. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has implemented new measures to maintain healthy beaver populations in suitable habitats throughout California and this funding is designed to promote that effort. The funding can be used for the implementation of recommended non-lethal management and for technical assistance to complete installation.
