Commission expands DPAC to add tribal, general public reps
Delta Protection Commission Chair Diane Burgis
The Delta Protection Advisory Committee (DPAC) will gain a tribal representative under action taken Thursday by the Delta Protection Commission.
“It’s about engagement, opportunity and giving the tribes a voice on DPAC,” said Delta Protection Commission Executive Director Bruce Blodgett.
Commission Chair Diane Burgis said, “Native American tribes have thousands of years of deep memory of the Delta from before Europeans came. Tribal voices should have a voice in how we manage our land and water. This is not us checking a box; Native knowledge will help us do a better job caring for the Delta.”
DPC turns out for Save the Delta Town Hall
Six representatives of the Delta Protection Commission were leaders or featured speakers Sept. 14 at the Save the Delta Town Hall, sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Delta Chapter.

Sen. Dodd honors Delta Week
State Sen. Bill Dodd kicked off Delta Week last week with a celebratory statement: “The Delta is a cherished watershed and the very lifeblood of California’s water system. It is vital to our state as both a natural resource teeming with abundant wildlife and fish and a vital economic driver for tourism, recreation and Delta farmers. We must continue to protect it for future generations by preventing pollution and further marshland degradation and promoting its environmental health.”
Dodd was the author of the 2022 Senate Concurrent Resolution creating Delta Week, to be celebrated each year the last week of September.
