Preliminary agenda released for Update 2023 plenary meeting
A preliminary list of agenda items and breakout session topics have been released for the California Water Plan Update 2023 plenary meeting. The two-day meeting Oct. 3 and 4, will be at the Roebbelen Center in Roseville. During the plenary, participants will receive a public review draft overview, including the three themes of Update 2023: climate urgency, watershed resilience, and water equity. There will also be a review and discussion of the plan’s recommendations. The first day will include the screening of a new film marking 20 years of integrated regional water management. Registration is open with in-person tickets available at the early-bird rate of $50 through Sept. 25. Tickets to attend online are free.

CDFW Lecture Series offers presentation on biodiversity atlas
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Conservation Lecture Series continues tomorrow, Sept. 7, with a presentation on the Atlas of the Biodiversity of California. The atlas is a collection of maps, photographs, and illustrations depicting the state's rich diversity of plant and animal species. The lecture series is designed to deliver the most current scientific information about conservation issues in California.
California and Denmark to share water loss reduction info
Information collected from water loss reduction efforts in Denmark and California will be shared during a webinar on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Representatives from the State Water Resources Control Board will provide an update on the Californian water loss performance standards scheduled to be enforceable by 2028. Danish officials will explain how their country has worked to attain a national average of 7 percent water loss, one of the lowest averages in the world.
Updated drinking water tool to be presented during webinar
The Community Water Center will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to discuss the updated version of its drinking water tool. The tool helps identify California communities that might be vulnerable to groundwater challenges that could affect their access to safe and affordable drinking water. The updated version of the tool includes a “Drinking Water Threats” layer that provides information on pesticides, confined animal feeding operations, Superfund sites, and more.

Webinar will detail current research on Ag-MAR
The current research on agricultural managed aquifer recharge (Ag-MAR) will be discussed during a webinar tomorrow, Sept. 7. The information will include the importance of Ag-MAR as one approach to achieving groundwater sustainability. The webinar is being hosted by the University of Arizona’s Water Resources Research Center.
Updated RCIS Guidelines on agenda for CDFW webinar
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19, to discuss the updates made to the Regional Conservation Investment Strategies (RCIS) Program Guidelines. The RCIS Program promotes the voluntary conservation of natural resources and to enhance resiliency to climate change and other threats.
New online tool tracks wildfire resilience projects in California
An online tool that tracks wildfire resilience projects has been released by the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force. The beta version of the Interagency Treatment Dashboard provides treatment activities such as prescribed fire, targeted grazing, fuel reduction, and tree planting. The tool displays the size and location of State and federal projects dedicated to forest and landscape resilience. Users can sort treatments into several categories including region, county, and land ownership.
