Environmental Flows Framework at September Lunch-MAR
The California Environmental Flows Framework (CEFF) will be discussed at the next Flood-Managed Aquifer Recharge (Flood-MAR) Program lunch meeting. The CEFF is an approach to develop environmental flow recommendations that balance human and ecological needs for water. The Lunch-MAR webinar will be Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Monthly webinar series explores nature-based solutions
The Network for Engineering with Nature hosts a monthly webinar series about best practices, cutting-edge research, and the latest developments in the field of natural infrastructure. The next webinar will be Thursday, Sept. 21. It will discuss taking a nature-based solutions approach when evaluating the benefits of water projects. The following webinar, on Thursday, Oct. 19 will focus on Tribal engagement in engineering with nature.

Two climate change assessment workshops set for coming week
Two workshops will be held in the next week to discuss local priorities that should be included in the regional reports of California’s Fifth Climate Assessment. The assessment will contribute to the scientific foundation for understanding climate-related vulnerability throughout the state. The Central Coast workshop (Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties) will be tomorrow, Aug. 24, in Santa Cruz. The North Coast workshop (Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, Siskiyou, and Del Norte counties) will be Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Klamath.

Registration opens today for annual water summit
Registration opens today, Aug. 23, for the Water Education Foundation’s Water Summit 2023. The annual summit will be held in Sacramento on Wednesday, Oct. 25. This year’s theme is, “Taking on the Improbable in Western Water.” The presentations will address changes in Western water management that were considered unlikely a decade ago.
Annual report released by Sustainable Conservation
Sustainable Conservation has released its annual report, detailing its work and accomplishments in 2022. The organization works to find solutions to environmental problems. The report covers the results in several areas including replenishing aquifers and accelerating restoration.
Webinar will cover grants for sewer, stormwater problems
Dealing with problems brought on by sewer overflows and urban stormwater will be discussed during a WaterNow Alliance webinar on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The agenda includes an overview of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant Program. The program provides funding for infrastructure needed to manage stormwater and address sewer overflows.
Overview of new application to link disjointed water-data
An overview of the Internet of Water’s new application, Geoconnex, will be presented during a webinar on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Geoconnex is a water-data search index that links disjointed water data with structured metadata. Ultimately, the goal is for the system to provide a Google-like experience and enable seamless organization and discovery of water information by theme and location.
