Update 2023 plenary meeting set for Oct. 3 and 4, in Roseville
The plenary meeting for California Water Plan Update 2023 (Update 2023) is set for Oct. 3 and 4, at the Roebbelen Center in Roseville. Keynote speakers, panel presentations, interactive sessions, and breakouts will provide participants an opportunity to learn about, and provide feedback on, the public review draft of Update 2023, scheduled for release in mid-September. The final version of the report will be released at the end of the year. During the plenary, participants will receive an overview of the public review draft; hear about the three themes of Update 2023: climate urgency, watershed resilience, and water equity; and review and discuss the plan’s recommendations. Registration is open with in-person tickets available at the early-bird rate of $50 through Sept. 25. Tickets to attend online are free. State funding available for recreational outdoor programs
Applications are being accepted for funding under the California Department of Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Equity Grants Program. The funding is for nature-based outdoor programs that establish hubs for local activities in underserved communities. The maximum grant for each request is $700,000. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, Dec. 14.
Crop block grants available to underrepresented organizations
in conjunction with it's Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP), the California Department of Food and Agriculture is accepting proposals to provide additional assistance to historically underrepresented organizations. The grants are for organizations that have not previously received SCBGP funding, work with underserved and beginning farmers, or provide access to specialty crops in underserved communities. Proposals must be submitted by Wednesday, Sept. 20.
CASGEM introducing new online system in Aug. 30 webinar
DWR’s California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring (CASGEM) program is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, Aug. 30, to provide an overview of its new online system. The CASGEM program tracks seasonal and long-term groundwater elevation trends throughout the state. The new online system includes an enhanced user interface, easier access for public users, and a new data import process.

Noon webinar will explore connection with 3DHP
Today (Aug. 16) at noon, the National States Geographic Information Council will host a webinar featuring the work being done with by the Internet of Water and how it can be connected to the 3D Hydrology Program (3DHP). The U.S. Geological Survey is establishing the 3DHP to improve the discovery and sharing of water-related data.
Cache Slough recreation plan available for public comment
Solano County, DWR, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are accepting public comments on the draft Cache Slough Public Access Recreation Action Plan. The plan will guide future county and State investments in recreation facilities within the Cache Slough region. The public comment period runs through Wednesday, Sept. 13.
Southern California issues on agenda for Water Solutions 8
Sustain Southern California's next event will be Water Solutions 8, which will focus on water use, desalination, and other prominent water issues in Southern California and the surrounding region. There will be presentations, discussions, and a keynote address on predicting atmospheric rivers across time scales. The event will be Thursday, Aug. 24, in Irvine.
