 Job opening: senior environmental planner
Protect the Delta - come work for the Delta Protection Commission as a senior environmental planner!
The person in this position ensures that land use changes in the Delta's Primary Zone don't come at the expense of agriculture, habitat, cultural values or levee systems, among other requirements.
Application deadline is Aug. 30.
Consultant opening: Section 106 process
The Delta Protection Commission is seeking services to support its participation as an additional consulting party to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is leading the review of the Delta Conveyance Project under the National Historic Preservation Act Sections 106 and 110(f). Deadline for submitting proposals is 2 p.m. PDT Sept. 6.
2023 Delta Champions named
 The Delta Leadership Foundation - formerly known as the Delta Regional Foundation - has announced this year's winners of the Delta Champion Awards.
2023 Delta Champion recipients are:
Kathy Leighton (Byron-area community volunteer, recognized posthumously) - Delta Preserver (Achievement in historical or environmental preservation)
Rich Turner (Soundings magazine and longtime Delta photographer) - Delta Promoter (Achievement in tourism, agriculture, education, commerce, and/or the arts)
Don Nottoli (Longtime Sacramento County Supervisor representing the Delta) - Delta Improver (Achievement in Delta health, community, and/or quality of life)
Isleton Chamber of Commerce/Jean Yokotobi and Suzanne Black (Publisher of Delta Life) - Delta Innovator (Achievement in new businesses offering increasing value to the Delta)
Dante Nomellini Sr. and Thomas Zuckerman (More than 50 years of effort defending Delta water as counsels to Central Delta Water Agency) - Delta Champion (Lifetime achievement in preservation, protection and promotion of the Delta)

Save-the-Delta Town Hall
A "Save the Delta" town hall meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Jean Harvie Center in Walnut Grove.
The co-hosts are the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Delta Chapter and Sacramento County Supervisor/Delta Protection Commission member Pat Hume.
The meeting goes from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Delta Stewardship Council
- The Delta Plan Interagency Implementation Committee meets Aug. 16.
- The Delta Independent Science Board meets Aug. 17.
- The Salinity Management Working Group meets Aug. 23.
- The Delta Stewardship Council meets Thursday and Friday Aug. 24 and 25.
The agendas will be posted here at least 10 days before each meeting.

Saturday, Aug. 26: Documentary screening of "In Our Words - Memories of Little Manila and Early Stockton," 2-4 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Stockton. To RSVP, email StocktonFANHS@outlook.com by Aug. 21.
Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 26-27: Shingle Springs Rancheria's Big Time features jewelry, crafts, food vendors and traditional dancers. Runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Saturday, Sept. 9: Rivertown Peddlers Faire, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Antioch's Rivertown District.
Saturday, Sept. 9: Airport Day Wings and Wheels at Rio Vista Airport, starts at 9 a.m.
Numerous dates through September: Yolo Basin Foundation Bat Talks and Walks in the evenings at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area (time varies).
 Harmful Algal Blooms Report
There is a Harmful Algal Bloom caution at Bethel Island Delta, Stone Road and Sea Drift Drive.
There have been visual observations at Delta Coves, Middle River near Mildred Island, Victoria Canal near Union Point, and West Canal at the Clifton Court Intake.
People are advised to stay away from algae and scum in the water. Do NOT let pets go in the water, drink the water, or eat scum on the shore. Keep children away from algae. Do not eat shellfish from this waterbody.
